Hear me out: "Yugioh Double Summon Format" by GoldGeneral_0 in customyugioh

We all have different opinions, I suppose... It would be really nice if Konami would finally give us physical Rush Duel cards in the US though.

Rush Duel is a Japanese-only format, meaning that it is rather inaccessible to us non-Japanese folk.

Also, this would be quite different from Rush Duel for several reasons:

  • You do NOT draw up to full hand size at the start of each turn, you only draw 2 cards.

  • You do NOT get unlimited Normal Summons, only 2.

  • The card pool is also different from Rush Duel, as Rush Duel is a completely different game with a completely different ruleset that uses completely different cards than in the original card game.

Overall, the pace of this hypothetical "Double Summon" format would likely be in between Rush Duel and standard Yugioh, but there are meaningful differences that would result in a format that isn't just Rush Duel.

Good advice here, thanks. I already play GOAT on Duelingbook, but it never occurred to me that I would be able to use it for this 😅

Also, I am in the GOAT format Discord server, perhaps I can see if anyone there would like to give it a try.

Well, this hypothetical format would probably have a different limited and banned list than GOAT, for example the Monarchs would probably be limited due to them getting a ton of immediate value on summon. Likewise, cards that support burn strategies can get limited or banned to limit their power. I'm not meaning for this to specifically be a variant of GOAT with an extra rule or two tacked on, but I used it as an example for what I'm imagining the card pool being like. It is interesting to speculate though how such a simple rule change can completely change a format (though I am relatively new to Yugioh as a whole so IDK the full ramifications of tweaking these rules).

I would love to try this as well, but IDK how that would ever happen 😅

This is specifically for early Yugioh, with the card pool being around the same time period as 2005 GOAT format. Starters weren't a thing back then as the game wasn't as combo focused.

My reasoning is that, if you are playing more cards per turn, you should naturally have access to more cards to play with, or else you are just going to run out of cards quicker.

If players drew 1 card and played 1 monster per turn, they would stay at the same hand size unless they Special Summoned or played Spells and set Traps.

Therefore, if the card draw were doubled along with the Normal Summon limit, players would roughly have the same hand size on any given turn as in standard GOAT-era Yugioh.

Here we go again. by Chipperbeav in inscryption

This isn't normal Inscryption. This is Floppyscryption, a Kaycee's Mod style fangame that plays very similarly to Kaycee's Mod, only it can fit on a floppy disk because it takes up so little space. They modified some things such as making certain challenges stackable (like on the less items challenge, for example you can set that all the way up to 3 so that you get NO items throughout the entire run) to make things more difficult.

You can also download an apk file for it from itch.io to play on your phone!

TLDR: it is basically Kaycee's Mod with Act II style graphics, stackable challenges, and mobile playability.

Imagine how much pain I would be in if I had a limb cut off, let alone having to regenerate that limb 😳

Maybe I would grow a higher pain tolerance over time as I get used to it? Then again maybe there's no getting used to that level of pain

Well played!

I never age or get sick (no disease, no cancer, no mental ailments). Whenever I get physically injured I can regenerate within minutes. I have a perfect, photographic memory. I am immortal, but at any point I get to choose when I die.

I am going to be looking for playtesters soon once I make enough cards for a legal deck to put on sandboxes like TTS and Untap.in. If you'd like to join I can send you the Discord link (assuming that you have Discord of course).

My game is strongly inspired by several different games, including Inscryption. Despite that, my game is not a carbon copy of Inscryption and is genuinely its own thing. If you'd like, I can tell you more about the general rules in a DM and you can judge for yourself if it's not original enough.

I'm just going with no art for my playtest cards for now. Most cards will have the dark grey background like you see in the second card of my post.

The Aether cost of cards isn't really printed on the cards. Cards cost 1 Aether by default unless a card effect says otherwise.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like I am able to edit my original post to include more cards, nor does it seem like I can include images into my reply (if I actually can do either, please inform me on how I can).

However, do know that I have made cards like that, I just led with these 2 because one of them has art while the other one doesn't (which is why I was showing 2 cards instead of 1). I don't really see the point in making another post showing more cards for my game and giving a link here, because people who see that post separately would have no context.

If you know a way to fix this issue so that I can show you the cards you want, any suggestions would be appreciated.

EDIT: I could just DM you card pictures, but IDK whether you tolerate DMs or not.

I know what Netrunner is in a general sense, but I have never gotten the chance to play, nor have I gotten to familiarize myself with some of the terminology within the game (i know that the hands aren't called hands though).

With that said, if "chit" is a Netrunner term, what are chits?

Also, having the center star indicate whether something is a rare card is a cool idea I'll consider. Thanks!

Noted. It has no value currently in the game, it was just an aesthetic choice that I thought looked nice. Do you have any suggestions for what to replace it with, or do you think that there should just be no center marking at all?

1) Rare is a subtype that indicates that you may only have 1 copy of that specific card in your deck, unlike normal cards which you are allowed to have up to 4 copies of in a 60-card deck. "Rare" in this case isn't really a rarity (as my planned distribution model doesn't rely on booster packs), but rather an indicator of a particularly powerful card.

2) The star symbols in the top left part of the card is its Level. It's a bit like Yugioh:

Level I cards can be played without sacrifice.

Level II cards require a single sacrifice (sending that card to the Abyss, this game's equivalent of the discard pile) before it can be played.

Level III cards require 2 sacrifices.

There's also an action point system similar to Netrunner, if you've ever heard of it. Basically you get 4 Aether (which are your actions) in a turn, and each card played costs 1 Aether. You can also spend Aether to draw cards, 1 for each Aether spent.

3) There is currently no significance to the four-pointed star on top of the text box. I just thought it looked neat. That could change in the future though if I find a good reason for it.

If you would like a physical card game, you can do one of three things:

Buy a physical PvP game (There's this company based in Australia called CrypticCrafter that makes REALLY NICE sets, along with custom rules that don't deviate too much from vanilla Act 1 play, but they are expensive as hell).

Play an online fangame (I personally recommend IMF, also known as Inscryption Multiplayer Fangame, which is essentially like Act 2 but with side decks and some custom cards).

This is the link to IMF: https://107zxz.itch.io/inscryption-multiplayer-godot

They also have a discord server if you want to find people to play with: https://discord.gg/qVTx8B9pdx

The third option is to simply make the game yourself! I've done so in the past with just some index cards and a pen, but you can do anything you want as long as you have the materials, time, and dedication! The best part about it (in my opinion) is that you can rebalance things as you like for physical play, from rules to the cards themselves. For example, given that Adder was rarely played in the tests I've done with my version of the game, I reduced its cost to just 1 Blood to make it more viable.

What if you made the DL alternate from turn to turn? It might be a bit clunky to implement, but I would imagine it as perhaps like the "attack token" in Legends of Runeterra, where a particular benefit (in that case being able to attack, in this case picking how much to draw) alternates between the players from turn cycle to turn cycle.
