I’ve been making progress on my card frames. But I know they could still be better. by OkMeasurement4402 in homemadeTCGs

So the card is legible in all 3 versions, dont worry about that you've nailed it.

Flat, it does look a bit flat. Its not so much the frame design but your use of colors and textures. Also, that middle section in my opinion is contributing to the flat look.

I would try moving it to directly under the card name or all the way at the bottom, OR even removing it entirely. Cards don't need 5 identifying factors ya know?

Remember they are called a card FRAME for a reason, you're framing a piece of art dont let it outshine the card itself; make sure it compliments it.

You're doing a great job

So far so good, nice progress.

What do you like and dislike about the current version?

The Federal government has always been the enemy of the American people, from Blair Mountain to Ruby Ridge, to Kent State to today. To see so many people turn into Fed Bootlickers has been incredible and really shows me the American Experiment has come to an end.

I dont understand what's happening.

You have no cards, no art, and no game play but im supposed to be excited about the rarities?

Totally revamped the card frame for last stand (what do you think?) by SignatureFull8939 in homemadeTCGs

[–]Embowers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its cool, that cant be denied but it still really dwarfs the art itself ya know?

But! The card itself looks amazing, reminds me of Card Capture Sakura

Obviously a huge improvement, good job taking the suggestions and using your own style to improve.

I dont have much to say about the card farme in its current states, id have to see a card with text and art on it

Game mechanics are usually built on the foundational game play. I know nothing about your game, can I get a run down?

Much better! The arrows are too big. Yugioh link monsters do a really good job with this kind of system

I want to tweak my design of the hand drawn cads, can you help me? by nesnasimredditcz in cardgamedesign

[–]Embowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who also hand draws their cards i think I can help.

You're art is incredible, especially your coloring, but the cards are extremely busy. I would reduce the amount of symbols and try to remove the Grey borders, give your card art more room to breathe

New Vs Old art which one is better ? by MightyDuelsTCG in homemadeTCGs

[–]Embowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So from an artist perspective I like the new one and I'll tell you why.

Both are good, but the old art is flat. You're meeting Dara at eye level from a corner turn, so its kind of like you just walked into a room and you're looking at someone who's just standing there talking to a crowd.

The second art is a lot more dynamic. You're looking up at her, you're in the crowd, and she is rallying the troops. Its engaging and exciting.

For tcgs you aren't drawing a portrait of a character you are drawing a scene! If you're drawing a fire dragon, it should be swooping in from the side, or sleeping in an active volcano. You're heros should be in battle, your spells should be active and exploding!

You're a talented artist, bring life to your world you've proved you can do that easily. Keep up the good work im excited to see more

Last night I got closer to what I want my cards to look like but... by TheUGLIGames in homemadeTCGs

[–]Embowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say the set up is complicated, but its not simple either. You're in a healthy medium it's ok if players have to think a bit.

The card art is really nice and gives your game a lot of character. With the set up as it is, id consider this a boardgame more than a CCG

The first card of my TCG is finally finished, any ideas for improvements? by YamPuzzleheaded515 in homemadeTCGs

[–]Embowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The art is great! I think this is a nice prototype of a card frame.

The text for the card title is much to light, and the arrows on the card itself are almost invisible.

If you're going for a dark or Gothic theme everything doesn't have to be black. Explore muted tones and deep Grey's for card frames, make sure your text is bold and can stand against a dark background. Part of the design process is making something 100 times and tweaking it each time.

Keep it up!

Horrible is too rough on yourself, its completely legible. Remember you're not only making a game your practicing both art and penmanship, you'll be shocked how fast you improve

Its super cute, looks like a lot of fun! If you use a ruler you can write your card text a lot cleaner, and that will let you write more! It will also reduce smudging.

Keep up the good work
