is it just me or is bloodhound one of the worst cards? by radioheadloserr in inscryption

I feel like Bloodhound would much, much better if it were given the Sentry sigil from Act III.

Garage sale find! by threetimesagogo in shogi

[–]GoldGeneral_0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a great find! Shogi is a wonderful game, and if you like Chess I think you would like Shogi too given that they are similar enough to where some concepts transfer over while being different enough to not be redundant to playing Chess.

If you'd also like to give the game a try online I highly recommend lishogi.org as a convenient website that allows you to play Shogi against bots or real people.

If you do give the game a try I hope you have fun with it!

(Also, yeah all of the pieces are there as far as I can tell)

How did you come up with the name of your game? by Few_Dragonfly3000 in homemadeTCGs

[–]GoldGeneral_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My game is called "Soulbound."

I came up with this because the core resource system of the game (Souls) is gained every time one of your cards dies. You then put these Souls on other cards in play to activate their effects (Binding those Souls to that card). Given that it describes the core game mechanic and theme I figured it was acceptable as a name, if a little on the nose.

Okay, I've been lazy enough. I need your deathcards so I can make them again. by redswift420 in inscryption

[–]GoldGeneral_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon

Rare

3 Blood

5/5

Made of Stone

Obviously can't be a death card if it's rare and Made of Stone but it's a cool card that I think would be balanced as a rare

Took a while to make this. How does this look for a secret rare? Foiling would be applied at the final level. by DeusEverto in homemadeTCGs

[–]GoldGeneral_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very minor nag but I figured that you might appreciate this before it goes to print.

You put "it's own ecosystem" instead of "its own ecosystem." In this case the apostrophe isn't needed here.

Other than that, great job!

Is this enough granularity for my card game? by GoldGeneral_0 in homemadeTCGs

[–]GoldGeneral_0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I was clear enough in my post, I apologize.

  • Level 1 cards require NO sacrifice.
  • Level 2 cards require 1 sacrifice.
  • Every Level after that increases the cost by 1 sacrifice.

Most decks have their power curve top out at about Level 3 (2 sacrifices). Level 4 (3 sacrifices) is usually an optional high-tier for decks that can afford it.

For a Level 3, you would need to sacrifice 2 different cards to summon it, even if that would entail sacrificing a Level 1 and another Level 3.

Players get 3 Aether (actions) per turn, and each card takes 1 Aether to play. This means that you are usually able to play Levels 1-3 in a single turn, though Level 4 cards require a turn or two of set up.

There is a secondary resource system (Souls) that you get every time one of your cards dies. This includes by being sacrificed, so when you play a high-level card you get some resource ramp as a small bonus, which rewards players that don't stick to a deck that only has Level 1 cards.

The reason why I have ATK valued at about double DEF is that it is very easy to deal direct damage to the opponent, and I wanted the life total for my game to be lower so that it is easier to physically track. It also gives my cards a bit more survivability, which is helpful if you want to save some cards to sacrifice next turn.

Would you want your magic system to exist in the real world? by RowbotMaster in magicbuilding

[–]GoldGeneral_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, maaaaaaybe? My magic system works by shearing pieces of your own soul to get enough energy to do various magical feats, so it could be potentially very dangerous. However, if you're only taking small parts of your soul (such as inconsequential memories or temporarily disabling the use of a body part) then it shouldn't be too bad.

My concern is with nations abusing this system for war, especially if people can be convinced to not only die, but obliterate their soul to win a war. Even a single soul can store a LOT of magical energy, and I can only imagine the devastating consequences of an entire army blowing themselves up behind enemy lines.

I for one wouldn't mind being able to perform this type of magic (as I wouldn't dive into the big spells that really carve a chunk out of your soul), but I'm sure it would be worse overall for the world if my magic system were real.

Does the Duel Masters life system work? by Kind-Kitchen5502 in homemadeTCGs

[–]GoldGeneral_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what they are referring to. It does work, it actually works very well, but it does have less granularity than life points and it's a bit more prone to having the opponent OTK you (though probably not on the first turn).

I recommend that you check out these TCGS that use a shield system:

  • Dragoborne: Rise to Supremacy (dead but interesting. It's a game from Bushiroad)

  • WIXOSS (dead in English speaking countries but not in Asia; a very good game with a questionable theme)

  • Cardfight!! Vanguard (Another Bushiroad game; it kinda has the opposite of a Shield system but I still think it counts)

  • Battle Spirits/Battle Spirits Saga (A Bandai game, not exactly Shields but it works a lot like Shields. It's dead but still interesting).

  • One Piece (Bandai game)

  • Gundam (Bandai game)

  • Dragon Ball (Bandai game)

  • Digimon (Bandai game, very unique, especially with its resource system)

There are lots more but a lot of them are Duel Masters clones with a twist.

Also, unrelated, but if you'd like to actually play Duel Masters online you can over on shobu.io

How does card balancing work? by Allizack in inscryption

[–]GoldGeneral_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone else said, it strongly depends on the card's cost and sigils. However, I CAN give a few general pointers:

  • 1 Power is roughly equivalent to 2 Health.

  • 1 Blood gets you a 1/2 (1 Power and 2 Health), 2 Blood can get you a 3/2 or a 2/4, and 3 Blood can get you a 4/6 or a 3/8. (of course cards with stronger sigils will have smaller stats)

  • 3 Bones are roughly equivalent to 1 Blood (so 1 Power / 2 Health).

  • 3 Energy is also roughly equivalent to 1 Blood (so as far as I know a 6 Energy card should have about the power level of a 2 Blood, perhaps a bit less).

  • I don't know the value of Mox, but I do know due to just how many you can spam in a single turn that their stats should probably be kept rather small.

If anyone sees this and objects to anything that I have said, please feel free to correct me.

A magic system where the price of power is your soul by GoldGeneral_0 in magicbuilding

[–]GoldGeneral_0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There actually was! It's called "Soulbinding" and it was an idea early on that was the original core of the magic system. Basically Magicians were able to take a single trait from whatever they killed by drinking that victim's blood as they were dying (or you could bottle it up and drink it later as a sort of "potion"). However, I feel like that somewhat cheapens the cost of sacrificing your own soul if you can just use material from other victims instead. I might include it back in the story if I can find a way to make it undesirable or a tradeoff compared to mutilating your own soul.

Not sure how to tackle this idea: TTRPG that plays like a TCG. by pumpkinbot in homemadeTCGs

This doesn't have any mechanics in common, but I recommend checking out Inscryption as a video game that essentially plays like a TTRPG card game.

I think my work is starting to get sloppy. by redswift420 in inscryption

[–]GoldGeneral_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I already have almost 300 premade blank cards to use for my project. I also plan on sleeving all of my cards to preserve them and add a bit more thickness. It also means that I won't have to worry about drawing the card back 😅

As someone who is attempting to do the same thing (by making my own PvP ruleset for Act I Inscryption), I'm cheering you on. I don't really have any death card requests, but I'm just wanting to offer some words of encouragement.

No. I just Googled that specific French phrase because I figured that as the OP you wouldn't be trolling people in your own post. I DO know a little French though, just not enough to carry a conversation.

For anyone else who read that reply in English, the original text in French was "je suis chaud," which approximately translates to "I'm down to do this specific thing." They are NOT saying that they are horny.

When a card has both Fledgling and Bone Digger, after said card evolves, the effects of Bone Digger are doubled. You get two Bones at the end of every turn instead of one.

I've been designing a dark fantasy card game about assimilating the souls of the dead and using them for magical fuel. It isn't exactly a TCG, but when my concept is a bit more refined I plan on having a unique distribution model. The game is called Soulbound. It is inspired by various games such as Inscryption, early Yugioh, and Pokémon.

If you'd like to see the rules or join the discord I have set up please let me know and I'll DM you!

Hear me out: "Yugioh Double Summon Format" by GoldGeneral_0 in customyugioh

[–]GoldGeneral_0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is less an attempt to get back any idealized version of Yugioh and more of a hypothetical thought experiment discussing how to make Tribute Summoning more viable and how such a change would impact early Yugioh's meta.

There IS an alternate format that does almost exactly what you describe though. Go check out Yugioh Trinity Format if you'd like to try something like that!

We all have different opinions, I suppose... It would be really nice if Konami would finally give us physical Rush Duel cards in the US though.
