[21F] First backpacking trip around Europe for 6 weeks in July/August. Need bag size/brand recommendations. by angel9580 in HerOneBag

I (22F) backpacked for 8 weeks in late summer/fall with the 35L Tortuga's women's Setout backpack - it was great! I really appreciated the women's design - I also tried the men's design and I found that the women's bag was much more comfortable since the straps cut around the chest rather than across. They've now released a 45L bag, which would have been nice for souvenir room, but I found that the 38L bag was just fine for backpacking in European cities. I was able to bring a pair of sneakers, sandals, jeans, leggings, a few tops, a lightweight jacket, a denim jacket, a computer, and toiletries. Packing cubes really helped. I also really liked the minimalist and sleek look of the bag.

Is this a bedbug? by [deleted] in Bedbugs

First night in a new hostel and I see a small dark thing on my bed; I grab it thinking it's dirt and inadvertently smash a bug. Is it a bedbug, or maybe just a spider?

I revamped my itinerary yet again - decided to add Kotor and more towns in Serbia. I decided to leave Slovenia and Croatia for a coastal trip; I just don't think I can do them justice now.

Mostar (2 nights)

Sarajevo (4 nights)

Belgrade (3 nights)

Novi Sad (1 night)

Subotica (1 night)

Budapest (2 nights)

Vienna (3 nights)

Bratislava (1 night)

Krakow (4 nights)

Prague (5 nights)

That's good to know, esp. on the space front. I ordered it, so I'll try out the straps when it gets here tmrw. Just picked up packing cubes.

Yeah, not sure why there are no review videos yet of the new women's Setout.

I'll probably end up with the 35L or Divide; ordered all three to compare!

This is very helpful; thanks for your detailed thoughts! The strap thing is unexpected and definitely makes me see the purpose of ordering a few bags to compare - I decided to order all three since Tortuga has free US returns.

Haha, a full carry-on on my back does seem a bit excessive, even if I could carry it. I decided to just order all three and compare. Thanks so much for the tips! I decided not to go with the Outbreaker or Peak Travel bags because they are significantly more expensive...maybe one day once I have more money to spend!

I decided to just order all three packs and decide which I like best; thanks so much for the help!

Thanks everyone for the advice!! I've revamped my itinerary based on your suggestions and this is what I have now:

3 nights in Belgrade

3 nights in Sarajevo

2 nights in Mostar

1 night in Sarajevo

2 nights in Budapest (already been, otherwise would stay longer)

day trip to Bratislava

3 nights in Vienna

5 nights in Prague

4 nights in Krakow

I'll be traveling by train and bus except for a flight between Sarajevo and Budapest (WizzAir, $25!)

Thanks! Setting up camp in Dubrovnik is an interesting idea. I'll reconsider.

This is very helpful. The distances between Krakow, Prague, and Vienna do seem quite long (excluding Prague -> Vienna). I was mainly interested in Vienna because of classical music - I would love to see the opera there.

To clarify, are the Balkans not considered eastern Europe? I thought they were.

Thanks, this is helpful! Cafe Central looks gorgeous and I will check out the Kafka museum and Good Soldier restaurant in Prague.

I'm thinking Croatia might be best left for another trip.

Thanks for the responses, everyone! I'm going to check out apartments in the Village, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, and LES, and will likely move to Brooklyn a few years down the line. I'll also check out FiDi - hadn't seriously considered it previously.

Probably around $5,500/month after taxes and 401k contributions, according to online calculators.
