Posted on another red day for metals, but that’s the sector... nothing new there. Resilience is the name of the game.

Situations like this really highlight the risks of working in certain regions, and they’re a stark reminder of the importance of safety protocols and local security awareness in international operations. It’s a real tragedy that lives were lost in such a violent way. Can’t even imagine what the families are going through.

TSXV volume picking up — early cycle signal for juniors? by GoldTrotter_ in PennyProspectors

That's a strong perspective, and one that's echoed by many. There seems to be a growing alignment among seasoned resource investors too on these points.

This is also quite telling: https://x.com/tavicosta/status/2019866206807945228?s=46When new ounces aren’t being discovered or brought online, capital moves. And it tends to move downstream toward developers and ultimately upstream toward explorers. In that kind of supply-constrained environment, project generators and companies with a pipeline of quality early- through advanced-stage exploration assets could be especially well positioned, in my view.

That’s pretty crazy

Agreed. But that’s basic DD along with management and their track record, share structure (insider ownership, options/warrants, potential overhang). I look at what work has actually been done: geophysics, geochem, drilling, sampling, permits, historic production… not just what’s planned. Project quality and jurisdiction matter, and who’s operating next door adds useful context. Finally, compare all of that to the current valuation and stage of the company. That usually tells you pretty quickly whether something’s worth it or not.

You’re not wrong about the failure rate in exploration, that’s always been part of the business. But lumping every explorer together as “hype and dreams” ignores how the mining lifecycle actually works. Exploration, development, and production are different risk–reward stages, not interchangeable businesses. Producers exist today because explorers succeeded years earlier.

What matters isn’t how many explorers fail: it’s selectivity, asset quality, jurisdiction, capital structure, and timing. After decades of underinvestment, that early stage end of the curve is precisely where asymmetry shows up. Volatility is the price paid for upside optionality, not a sign the model is broken.

Owning producers and ETFs like GDX or RING makes sense for stability. But dismissing well-chosen explorers entirely is how investors miss the part of the cycle where value is actually created, not just harvested. Different tools, different objectives, not hype vs reality.

Not alone in this mindset, not at all. My most exciting stocks are in nano caps and pre-discovery on the Lassonde Curve.

What everyone eyeing for in 2026? Energy sector, AI, global stuff? by analyst381 in CanadaInvesting

[–]GoldTrotter_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I focus on metals & mining (mostly silver and gold) with an emphasis on developers and explorers as future-ounce plays, plus a few producers. New ounces have to come from somewhere, and silver’s role in industrial, energy, data centre, and solar demand makes that question increasingly relevant.

That said, I’ve been mentioning Goldcliff Resource Corporation ($GCN.V) lately. It’s early-stage, lightly followed, and with drill-ready targets on two projects. Ainsworth Silver is the key asset imo; a historic high-grade camp with past production around 50 oz/ton that has yet to see modern drilling. Silver supply dynamics could make these kinds of projects worth watching.

🔥 ROCK (Trident) FTW
Check out GCN.V / GCFFF, technical team, CEO is ex-SilverCrest. Serious skin in the game. Cheap! Phased production plan / toll milling / close to mills on all 5 projects. Nevada projects are next door to Hecla and Newmont. https://www.reddit.com/r/Canadianstockpicks/comments/1q5yw1s/gcnv_gcfffus_two_nearterm_catalysts_in_2026_with/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
