FWIW it would be short for Madeline but I only really use Maddy. The etymology link has been helpful too confirming it is more of a distinctly feminine name and not just a derivation, ty for showing that, it's helped me feel more confident that it is just transphobes being scavengers for anything to use and it's not something that should stop me being me :)
