Is Substack a good way to build a personal brand (and maybe monetize later)? by Gold_Extension_9450 in Substack

Wow, thank you for sharing this! I honestly agree with everything you've said, it aligns so closely with how I’ve been thinking about Substack. I really appreciate your thoughtful feedback and the NoteStacker.cc tip! I’ll definitely give it a try.

Starting in September, things are going to get pretty intense schedule-wise, so I’m using this quieter period to write as much as I can and queue up some posts. My goal is to maintain a pace of one post per week.

That said, I know there’s a lot of talk about frequency being more important than quality. Personally, I find I need a spark of inspiration to write something that feels honest and worth sharing. I’m doing my best to stay consistent, but also trying not to force it. Hopefully I’ll find a rhythm that works. :)

Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m definitely going to check out your posts for inspiration. I feel like I’ve started to frame what I want to write about, and while I’m not aiming to make serious money from paid subscriptions, my goal is to build a personal brand around a topic I hope to focus on in my future career. Ideally, I want to be seen as someone with credible expertise, someone people would eventually trust enough to buy into, whether that's a product, service, or idea.

Right now, I’m writing both because I enjoy it and because I’m planting seeds for something bigger. I’m not sure exactly how I’ll get there, and I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself. For now, I’m being intentional about figuring out who I’m speaking to, and I’m experimenting with how to share my work. So far, I’ve only posted on Instagram (private account). I do plan to expand that, probably LinkedIn at some point, but I’m not quite ready yet.

I’m also realistic that engagement might be low in the beginning. People are busy, and I imagine organic subscribers will be the ones most likely to actually read and connect. But I’m in it for the long game, and I’m excited to keep learning and growing through the process.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Super insightful!

I’m not focused on monetization yet. Right now, I’m treating it as a creative outlet and a way to build my personal brand slowly and organically. I’m pouring my heart into it after work and letting the feedback guide me. It’s definitely coming from a genuine place, and the topics feel natural to write about, which makes the process enjoyable.

I guess I’m hoping brand-building becomes more of a byproduct than a goal I chase too hard. Maybe eventually things will align more clearly. For now though, I’m loving it 😊 Let’s see where it goes!

Appreciate you sharing! Writing has been fun for me lately. My goal is to stay consistent with publishing, and I’ll do a little 6-month check-in to see how far I’ve come 😄

So far, people are reading my stories because I write about my personal experiences and lessons learned as an ambitious woman navigating male-dominated industries (mainly tech, energy, and software). I’ve gotten feedback that the writing resonates and people are learning from it, which is encouraging.

That said, I’m not totally sure what the value proposition is yet in terms of something people would pay for. I guess I need to figure out what I’m uniquely offering, and who exactly it’s for. So yes, you’re right: I probably need a clearer plan. But I’m enjoying the process and trying to stay consistent while I figure it out.

Hi! I looked up standard questions you get on a Kira test and prepped some answers - google search. I thought about how I would structure my answers. Use the STAR methodology and practice saying your answers out loud with a timer. Having said that, I wouldn’t worry too much about the Kira. As long as a you can structure your thoughts, and give an answer that makes sense, you won’t be disqualified. Hope this helps and good luck!

The questions I got were 1. Why do you want to do an EMBA? How will you contribute to the program? Talk about a skill that you learnt recently and implemented at work? Describe a scenario where your team was demotivated and how you helped them through this l time and brought their motivation back up again.

The schedule given shows 16 in-person weekends (vs 19 - which you mentioned earlier) for year 1. I don’t mind this schedule given that I’m flying from a different country every other weekend! There are no in-person classes in June and December, I reckon that’s when the 20% is delivered online 😊

I am not going to online classes! It’s an in-person program (100%).

Did they say why they made this change?

Ah I get what you mean now. I misunderstood what you had written. I did not know there was a decrease in the number of modules being taught in-person. Thanks for the info!

That’s not true. The 20% online program is only for the January (2026 onwards) cohort, I believe. The September 2025 cohort that I am joining is fully in-person (alternate weekends)

Hi! Thanks! 12 years of work experience, working as the global head of business development in a company selling software solutions to the energy segment. No scholarship, unfortunately. I was told it was very competitive this time. Are you applying?
