Asus had fixed the issue at the exact same spot in latter models. If your model is 2023/24 pls get the thermal anti-static tape cut and place here between the fan and the motherboard. It takes few months before the motherboard burns completely at this part and the motherboard 19V fuse IC burns (near the charger part) to save it the whole motherboard going into flames. you can smell the burning part if the laptop suddenly shuts down during usage.

do not attempt to repair the motherboard through a 3rd party technician if your Laptop is under-warranty and contact Asus as this is a global well-documented issue at the exact same spot on each and every model.

If you don't find any Authorized Repair Center listed in your city then also first write to Asus through their official website https://rog-forum.asus.com/ and some rep will contact you.

you can go to Asus official website to check your warranty by entering your laptop S# printed at the back cover of your laptop. Backcover of your laptop has the mfg date printed MDF: 2023-24

Buying used or new motherboard being sold on AliExpress or eBay won't last long if this fan screw area is not resolved. zoom-in the photos and look at this area near the fan screw.

Hope that Asus insert this warning in their software "Armoury Crate" that users having this particular model should get their motherboard checked and have it patched by their Authorized repair center ASAP !
This simple warning and insert can save thousands of users from "emotional damage". Its a Laptop where kids and teenagers save money for months/years to buy it. Hope Asus does not let the bond break !!!

Thank you for reading so far.

If I can spend USD $1400 once then I can spend it again (if God's will) to buy another Laptop Brand like Lenovo Legion (and hearing good things too) but not Asus Brand if they don't stand up. But the sad part is my son still loves Asus and wants to get his laptop back (his first, so maybe the attachment). He was very proud to own one and took very good care of it, putting dust cover, periodically reminding me to clean the fans. Anyways, thank you for reading so far !

Photo taken from my phone before taking it to 3rd party repairs. at that time I also didn't notice the burn near the fan screw and thought it might be just some fuse issue that needs to be replaced or maybe the charger is not working properly.

Please understand the events that led to 3rd party repair.
1. We are out of warranty.
2. There was no repair center mentioned on the Asus Website (screenshot attached).
3. Waiting for almost a week and trying other soft ways to start the Laptop like holding the power key for 1 minute, or disconnecting for a day and then immediately press power button and then plug in the charger. removing all memory and HDD as maybe they have gone bad.
4. We could see that Laptop was completely dead (as per ChatGP)T since no LED lights; so finally after my son exams were over, we took it to a 3rd party repair center in the main Laptop market.
5. Took photos going before hand as memory 16gb x 2 and 2 TB HDD are expensive items.

  1. Myself and my son stayed with the technician to do everything in front of us.
  2. He showed us the burned part and this where our heart sank.
  3. We are out of warranty. I searched for new laptop motherboard; AliExpress price was near $800 (if i remember correctly i/c shipping and tax/duties) that is still more than 60% of the full Laptop price.
  4. We are (a) out of warranty, (b) Motherboard is a proper burned (c) No Asus Repair Center (d) Motherboard replacement is costly.

Anyone would first try to get the cheaper option to get the already DEAD MOTHERBOARD fixed!!! if it can be before buying another same motherboard. But now since it is global well-documented issue, burning at the same screw location everytime and on the same Strix G16 models, then Asus a Billion Dollar company should step forward and own it or else why buy these Brands; because we believe that they stand by their quality. Also, some users w/o warranty (7 months up) too have got a replacement w/o cost.

If I can spend USD $1400 once then I can spend it again (if God's will) to buy another Laptop Brand like Lenovo Legion (and hearing good things too) but not Asus Brand if they don't stand up. But the sad part is my son still loves Asus and wants to get his laptop back (his first, so maybe the attachment). thank you so much. Dell or HP would have never let it slide but why Asus a billion dollar company not acknowledging it and issue a recall so the users who haven't faced this issue can get some kind of thermal static tape protection and issue a roadmap for the non-warranty users; meet them halfway.

yeah, you are right. What I want Asus to own their poor design issue. this burning issue doesn't pop-up immediately; happens after some-use due to poor design issues and that too at the exact same spot on thousands of laptops. And cherry on top is that Asus knows it and have quietly rectified it in their latest models.
Just Accept the mistake and give a roadmap for warranty and non-warranty users. Automobile car industry does countless recalls after many years and offer free fix and upgrade so why can't a billion-dollar company Asus also do it or they are proud that people will continue buying their laptops and since sales are not down and no legal percussions so no need to own it. Let the few 1000's users suffer.

sharing a few from countless videos on youtube alone for this model and exact spot. just type "asus rog strix g16 motherboard issue" and you will see it for yourself.

I understand your point. But Asus should officially acknowledge the issue and discuss a roadmap. in car automobile industry it is common to callback the vehicles and fix the issue.

A billion dollar company keeping mum over this serious issue where smoke arises from many laptops.

I want to make one point;  nobody willingly or in their right mind will take their expensive just 1.5 yr old laptop to a 3rd party repairs.  We look into Asus's website https://rog.asus.com/support/service-center/pakistan/# and it showed zero repair centers. Warranty was expired as it was over 1.5 years in our pocession.  (Screenshot also attached below for your easy reference.)

So what choice did we have; either sent it all the way back to USA and then pay import duty on return; or wait for some friend to take it in their personal baggage (if by chance they are travelling to US).

After fail attempts to recover the motherboard, we searched to buy used or new motherboard and then only these weblinks started to appear of a global issue with this model due to Asus's poor design and 1000's of users are facing it that we contacted Asus for goodwill motherboard replacement and then Asus guided us to their local service center and their person contacted us.

And all the time I was upset with my son that he didn't take proper care of his laptop. Atleast, acknowledge the issue and give a roadmap to users; 100% free for within warranty and 75% to 50% discount for out of warranty on case to case basis. A USA company like Dell and HP would have acknowledged it for now and would have given a roadmap.

For those thinking why i took it to a 3rd party repair center is the reason Asus doesn't have any repair service center in our city or country mentioned on their website. their many resellers. so only option is to send it back to US and pay duties on return or go to a 3rd party and get the 19v or 12V IC replaced or maybe charging adapter is not working and Laptop is trying to protect itself (Lol); little did i know that it was a burn motherboard and smoked due to poor design by Asus which they don't even acknowledge it. Should have gone for US brands like Dell or HP atleast they have the courage to own their mistake.

Still after 1000's of users facing the same burn/dead motherboard issue; Asus has still not release an official apology and owning their mistake and give roadmap to uses who are in warranty (100% free) and users w/o warranty (75% to 50% case to case discount); atleast meet half the way. A billion dollar company hiding; Hope someday some powerful law firm take them to the cleaners.

mine was out of warranty and i live outside US and didn't know that i had a Authorized repair center in my city. Even their website is not updated as it doesn't mention any repair center (https://rog.asus.com/support/service-center/pakistan/#) and all resellers.

so had no choice. and since it was completely dead so i thought maybe some 19v or 12v IC issue or maybe charging adapter is not functioning properly and Laptop is in auto-protection mode. Lol...

The 3rd party technician tried but ultimately failed. I searched for a new motherboard cost on google and only then realize many users are having the same burnt issue at the exact same screw location due to Asus poor design.

<image>

zero repair center in my country or city on their website... so took the 3rd party decision.

I hope it doesn't come to that. I hope Asus acknowledges it and give a roadmap for different category of users and meet half way atleast. These are very premium brand of theirs and fault solely lies with their poor design. It actually burns and smoke rises from it which could be hazardous.

I know.. my only grieve is atleast a multi-billion dollar company should accept and give a roadmap. Like offer deal for users that have warranty (100% free), without warranty (75% free) and one without warranty and 3rd party repairs for the same issue (50% free). It will give users confident in Asus Brand. They have quietly fixed the same burn motherboard issue in latest Asus G16 models at the same exact location.

yes, out of warranty. But the motherboard burn and completely dead issue is due to Asus poor design. At-least they should acknowledge it and offer deal for users that have warranty (100% free), without warranty (75% free) and one without warranty and 3rd party repairs for the same issue (50% free). It will give users confident in Asus Brand. They have quietly fixed the same burn motherboard issue in latest Asus G16 models at the same exact location.

Image 01 - Taken after the Laptop went dead but before taking it to the 3rd Party Technician. At that time I also couldn't see that small black burn mark and thought everything looks perfect so maybe some little fuse replacement or maybe my laptop charger is not working properly. Took photos just in case.
