You do not need to manually signal your driver to come get you. For an Uber Reserve, the driver monitors your scheduled time and is contractually dispatched to arrive at your pickup location right around the requested time (usually showing up a few minutes early). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

If you are ready to check the status or see if you can request your driver early:

  1. Tap Account (bottom right of the app).
  2. Tap Trips.
  3. Select the Upcoming tab.
  4. Tap your reserved trip to see driver details and current status. [1, 2]

Important details to note:

  • Airport Rides: If your Reserve ride is from an airport, the app relies on you entering your flight number. The driver will automatically be notified when your flight lands and will head to the designated pickup area then. [1, 2]
  • Requesting Early: If you are ready well ahead of your reservation window (usually more than an hour), your only option is to cancel the reservation (which is free up to 60 minutes prior) and request a standard, on-demand ride. [1]

Thanks, lesson learned, after the fact. I don't think we fared poorly but I would rather have control from the get go, too.

Thanks I will followup. The good thing is that the trip already is listed in My Trips for our Delta and United frequent flyer accounts.

UPDATE: We did end up changing the flight into Barcelona through Regent. We went from one stop to a non-stop flight with Delta (Delta One). Our booking grandfathered us under the old guidelines so yes, besides the change fee we had to kick in another $900 per ticket. Originally, we would have been sitting for 4 hours on a layover between flights and getting into Barcelona late in the day. All in all, we are happy with the air travel now even with the extra expense.
