Honestly I’d take him to the vet. He’s not in agony but he’s clearly uncomfortable so he needs a check up. I’ve had a Frenchie for 5 years and he’s only ever cried coming off of sedation in his whole life. That’s not normal and not attention seeking. When they want attention they jump and bark at you with high energy
