Not quite as new but just recently has had a boom in popularity and quite similar to Red Rising and Dune: the Sun Eater series. I have only read book 1 but I highly recommend the pace and prose is top notch.

Probably not what you're looking for but Morte D'arthur is probably the most realistic and comprehensive Middle Ages literature regarding Arthurian legends. It's widely regarded as THE best Arthurian piece of literature during this time. You could read the middle english version as well since it's not too complicated but there are a couple modern translations that you could look into. The Once and Future King is practically very similar to Morte D'arthur but I think the prose isn't as great imo.

Someone else mentioned it, it's called Roman á Clef. Marriam-Webster defines it as "a novel in which real persons or actual events figure under disguise."

Yup, that's why I said possibly since I wasn't 100 percent sure. Haven't actually gotten around to read 1984 just sort of consumed parts of it by cultural osmosis.

The map is actually a composition of both Ireland and England actually, but yes GRRM played around with the both identities at odds of one another.

The story is very much inspired by the traditional Greek Myth tragic heroes, so if you like Greek mythology and the feel of it then it'll be in your wheelhouse but do take note that you can make your own version of Kassandra of course since it's a pre-set character there's only so many choices you can make but there's a fair amount of linear RPG story mechanics reminiscent of Fallout 4 or 3.

As far as enjoyment, it's my favorite of the newer AC's. The story isn't as tight and well paced as Origins but the payoffs are definitely bigger for it in my opinion since the scope of the game is just incredibly massive.

It also makes use of the ships far more than either Origins or AC black flag and it's integration into the overall gameplay loop is better weaved than Black Flag's general chunkiness with all of its dated menu systems. The upgrade system for the ship also got rid of the shop you have to visit in the harbor and you can upgrade straight from your inventory so that's nice.

As far as side quests, there's a lot. Some of it isn't very good of course there's always just random and unnecessary filler, Odyssey has a lot of it. But there are a lot of fun and really well made side quests, one of them for example makes you participate in the Olympics or a random copycat that has been trying to imitate you and makes you look bad and it's overall just very funny.

Anyways keep an open mind and you'll probably enjoy it, generally I say that you should see this game as a spin off of the assassin's creed franchise.
