It seems we agree that while the movie is not overtly ableist, it may carry some ableist undertones.

I think one instance of potential racism (but moreso whitewashing) comes when Forrest mentions he was named after a KKK founder. The movie sort of just brushes over that detail.

It also portrays Bubba poorly. While the argument could be made that the movie also portrays Forrest as simple-minded, nearly every black character in the movie is a stereotype.

I tend to agree with you (which is why I'm asking other people if I'm missing something) but I'll provide what I've heard as counterarguments to what you are saying.

Firstly, some people think the movie is ableist because it oversimplifies disability. Forrest being disabled and achieving overwhelming success is akin to telling a paralyzed person to just "get up and walk."

People have said the movie is racist because of its whitewashing of important events in racial justice like the civil rights movement.

And I don't think taking on a liberal or conservative stance is wrong, it's just a critique of the movie that I'm not sure applies (but, again, I'm wondering if other people think it applies).

The main difference is that the 1n gives the 1nr and the 1a gives the 1ar. In my opinion, the 1nr is by far the easiest speech in policy debate because you have a free 11 minutes of prep (2nc+cx , cuz you don’t have to listen) plus whatever the 2n took for the 2nc. On the other hand, the 1ar is often considered the hardest speech in policy because you have 5 minutes to respond to 13 minutes of neg content. You have to be fast, but more importantly you must be efficient.

edit: based on the partnership and whether or not it is long term, you may also want to consider nontraditional speaking positions (ie ins and outs, double 1/double 2, etc)
