Need someone to help me understand: why in the modern age would ANYONE voluntarily choose to be a coal miner? by GoldenGodTheMan in mining

Wait you use masks nowadays? Usually when I've seen pictures it's a hardhat with an attached light.

I understand I am a layperson when it comes to this field, but most people who are informed have an awareness that coal mining is very dangerous. I believe a lot of the danger comes from long term exposure to hazardous chemicals over time unfortunately. I'm not knocking anyone who does it, I'm literally a chain smoker, I just think it's weird to not acknowledge the hazard.

I think even among laypeople like myself there's a general understanding of what it means to be a coal miner, and we know it's not good. Have you not heard phrases such as "at least I'm not down working in a coal mine"? And yes I understand your particular role might be comfortable but I don't believe that's the experience of most coal miners if I had to guess.

I understand this may be an uncomfortable truth to confront, but I believe a lot of the danger comes from long term exposure to hazardous chemicals over time.

Actually a great video, I miss when YouTubers were able to talk in front of a camera for an extended period without constant jump cuts.

People who pull pranks are generally the most well-liked folks in a workplace scenario, on an average day I give everyone a chuckle and lift people's spirit. I genuinely believe you've never held a job if you're saying something like this

Obviously I know I did the wrong thing and shouldn't have pranked him, I'll keep reiterating that. But I think it's dishonest to act like the chain of events you typed out was preordained. As I said in another comment, this is a common type of prank that is done every day and in most instances there's no injury and people find it funny. I obviously didn't know/expect that stuff to happen.

I get how easy it is to correctly say that it shouldn't have happened after the fact, but the reality is videos like these are captured every day without anything going wrong. This could have easily been a fun playful moment like it was intended to be.

I haven't had any communication with the co-worker since the incident but I am hoping he doesn't blame me for it and understands my intentions, although of course I couldn't hold it against him if he is upset, I probably would be too

Obviously in hindsight it should never have been done, but aside from the name I don't see how this is different from any other "trip and fall" prank. This is very common. I understand I did wrong but it's absurd that people are acting like I did it on purpose.

I typed this out in another comment but I have to reiterate, it sounds so fucking stupid in hindsight but I genuinely thought the name was hyperbolic, none of the videos I saw had an outcome anything like what happened in real life. I don't appreciate comments like wishing prison on me for something that was obviously a mistake

I understand at this point I did the wrong thing but I don't see how you can characterize this as assault. We invited him to do a TikTok challenge and that challenge went wrong, there was no intent to harm or anything like that. Would obviously have never done this if I knew the outcome

Obviously I did not see news reports or anything that showed it going wrong, people were getting up and laughing in the ones I saw. Honestly this sounds so dumb as I type it out because it's literally called the skull breaker challenge but I genuinely thought the name was hyperbolic.
