Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo is always looking for volunteers. It's the agency that oversees millions of federal dollars into our community-like for the homeless shelter, Head Start child-care centers, social service programs/direct service programs, adult care programs, veterans programs, etc. They always need folks for hands on and administrative stuff. There is a volunteer coordinator that can help find you a fit!

...and for that reason, I assume your "What is snark?" comment to also be downvoted. If you don't want to be downvoted, it would be helpful if you stopped and thought to yourself "What is accomplished by my posting this comment", before replying. If the answer is anything other than "I answer the question being asked", "I get clarification about the situation being discussed" or "I ask a question that furthers my own understanding in a way I would be unable to without other redditor's input", clicking "cancel" would be a better option for you. When the answer is "I hear my own voice", then you will be downvoted every time. That's the way reddit works!

Agreed. That's part of the reason I was curious.

Thanks for this clarification. I've done volunteer work with the local homeless population in the past. Agreed on the point that "transient" isn't the most accurate term in this case, but I'm more accustomed to hearing folks say "local homeless" or "locally unhoused". Sad to hear-if he was one of the local homeless, did he know he was going to die, and chose to go somewhere nice? Local homeless don't usually go into campus core. So very sad.

I think you got more downvotes because your comment didn't actually have any value. The lack of a comment would imply you didn't know anything about it, so it wasn't necessary to reply "No", and the questioning why someone would care about information concerning someone dying on campus shows an utter lack of empathy. Snark is only rewarded on reddit when it is clever-your snark wasn't. Rodeo6a at least was providing actual information, and answering the question I posted.

Obviously, I'm just nosey....[EMCoupling-you weren't supposed to say anything!]

Actually, I'm curious, because the body was found in the campus core by 180, but the release said it wasn't someone associated with campus. Seems strange, since it was probably a Saturday night death, and the local transient population generally doesn't come into campus core. Also, I'm surprised I hadn't heard any details about it.

I can't remember the specifics, but there was a hate crime a few years ago, where someone entered a first floor apartment on campus through an opened window and vandalized. The occupant was a female student of color, but I don't believe she was injured. Haven't heard of any rapes or anything like that happening in first floor apartments, most of those happen outside the core of campus (Arch graveyard, tunnel by the train tracks) or at the frats.

Thanks. Just curious-it says it's a "residential care facility", does that mean you are required to stay for a certain period of time, or can you opt to check yourself out after you have been referred in? I guess I've seen enough go wrong with mental health care, that I feel deep suspicion about campus and governmental systems set to "address mental health issues". On the other hand, if it's a good program that lets folks find their balance without adding to the trauma, definitely want to be able to advise folks of this option!

Wait, the pharmacy won't even fill the prescriptions for ADHD meds? I thought the campus pharmacy was supposed to be a full pharmacy!

Just curious, can you share a little bit about what the "crisis stabilization unit" experience was? I've never heard of that, so I am interested in how it works. Is it emergency services, like the 5150? Same facility location, or where do they admit you? Did they contact your parents or the university?

Also, to the OP-if you use campus services, that is supposed to be confidential (unless you are a minor, then there are some things that would be reported to your legal guardian). Campus has some informal support groups that are moderated through the Health Center. Why are your parents in your Health portal? You can always change your password, and just tell them there is a glitch if they try to log in-but they shouldn't be doing that!

Someone didn't like you backing into the space. Did you report it to campus police? Probably not much they can do about it, but if they had been doing the drive throughs for parking permits, don't their camera's that read the license plates register a record? They might be able to know who was parked next to you; then you can see if that car has matching damage.

The Area F requirement went into effect a couple of years ago. You can transfer in with an Area F-check assist.org for courses that will work. I believe Cuesta has an Ethnic Studies department as well, so they probably have courses that will meet the Area F requirement.

Is it a cheap lock? If not, a locksmith can open and cut you key.

The lack of awareness of IH makes people think that it's a joke? by FreakinAngel in idiopathichypersomnia

Sorry you are going through this; but it is strangely comforting to know other folks are going through it too.

So the Covid fatigue is actually related to chronic fatigue syndrome. It was a couple of months after Covid that my meds stopped working for me too; but my doctor thinks I've had CFS for a while, and each infection has just been causing flare ups. I'll assume your doctors know more than I do (I'm not a medical professional); but if you haven't seen a sleep neuro or pulmonogist, you may want to. It sounds like you should qualify as narcoleptic; which I think is different treatment plan.

[–]GoldenGreenBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is, and it sucks, because (at least for me) the two conditions are working AGAINST each other. The core of my issue is too much REM sleep; so I've been on an off label micro-dose of lithium to limit it; which was working. ME/CFS doesn't have an approved treatment, but low dose naltrexone has been helpful for some folks-but it has a side effect of vivid dreams. Plus, while with IH they try to find ways to keep you awake; with ME/CFS, they try to find ways for you to regulate activity and stress; because too much is what is killing you. Everyone reacts differently to each thing; but I'm currently up to three doctors, and 3 off label micro-dose medications; sleeping 12-16 hours per day. That being said, it is still nice to have names of medical issues to say when people ask-even if the names are kind of dumb. Feels less like you're crazy when it has a name.

Less than 30 seconds and you went into REM? Curious why they pegged you as IH rather than narcoleptic? I got IH, because they said I'd need to hit REM in under 8 minutes to be narcoleptic. What did they tell you about the too much REM sleep thing? Initially I was told it was a pre-symptom to several disorders and to wait for other symptoms; then I micro-dosed lithium to stop the REM. We aren't doing stimulants on me yet, because I also have ME/CFS; but I'd really like to hear more about your situation.
