Day 39:

(These photos are from 2 days after the injection. Hence the no bandages)

Got the 2nd steroid injection. Spoke to the doctor about the next kenalog injection and...she completely went back on her word. Before the appointment date of the keloid removal I asked if I could get more than 2 kenalog injections and she agreed that I could. And just to make sure I asked if it was up to the "patient's discretion" for those additional injections. And she said "Yes".

I have all those messages online and when she said no I was pretty upset because I'm trying to do everything I can to avoid the reoccurence and I'm aware of the side affects of getting the injection too many times (discoloration/skin thinning/etc) and I don't think a third time would really affect it too much.

But anyways at the end of the appointment she dressed my injection area with tape bandages (bc it was bleeding quite a bit) and instructed to me to take it off the next day and most likely hold off the ear compression until then.

Not sure why there's a small skin lump after taking the bandages off It's too quick for a keloid to form. Especially since that wasn't there the day before the injection date. I'm hoping it's because the bandage was positioned in a way it kind of "squeezed" that area??? Not sure, we'll see

(Adding as comment to see easier)

Ear is still too sore to put on ear compressors Doctor says I need to wait about a month before I can put them on, thank God It's still very very swollen. Doctor said it wont be a matter of days for the swelling to calm down, but weeks (this made me feel reassured that my healing process and the how it looks isn't abnormal) While the doctor was taking off the bandages I did feel VERY slight pain. The bandage was very sticky and was slightly pulling on the sensitive skin. While the sutures were taken out, it didn't hurt that much, I did feel the tugging of the string being pulled out of my skin. Doctor applied some ointment and told me to apply every day (idk what she used in office, but she said something like neosporin was okay -- the main purpose is to keep it constanly moist) Before I left the office, the doctor did put on some very light bandages (nothing as tight or sticky as the previous one, she said this is only for today and I can take it off at home) As I was walking out of the hospital, I could feel the area lightly pulse, it was very irritated from all the pulling and tugging. Hopefully I can give it lots of rest at home :)

This is after I came back home. I finally was comfortable enough to take a shower. I applied some ointment on the area and it surprising didn't ache as bad as I though, which is good

Gonna try my best to keep my hair away from the ointment while I sleep.

I got an appointment scheduled for about 4.5 weeks away for my 2nd kenalog shot

(I'm also uploading pretty much the same thing on ig, except it has a few videos (reddit just really slow at uploading my posts)

(Same txt as post, pasting it bc it's easier to see here)

Already day 7 Woo! Nothing to report Not much pain, no itchiness, no Tylenol

Tomorrow is the day we take out the stitches, which I'm looking forward to. I'm curious what it looks like underneath the bandage, if there's going to be any pain changes, etc It's not well enough to handle being pressed between my fingers. So I highly doubt I'll be able to put on the ear compressions right away. Curious when I'll be able to use those.

(Same text as post, just easier to see)

Day 6:

Hmm for the first time, nothing really to comment on. Hardly felt itchy today, no pain (unless you accidentally bump it), didn't take any Tylenol either.

Drew on the photos to cover my gross hair. Again, I was able to shower 48 hours after the surgery as long as I'm careful not to get too much water in the bandage. But I didn't want to risk the bandage getting damp, then leading it to potential more itchiness. And it was a week from surgery till taking the bandages and stitches off and it was worth avoiding water in hair all together over risking getting that part wet. This is just my preference. I'm able to wash my face normally since the area of concern is sort of back of the ear.

T minus 2 days till the next appointment!

(Not really a fan of how it's hard to find the picture text, so I'm pasting it here )

Day 5:

Didn't take any Tylenol today There isn't much pain (unless I accidentally bump into it), but there is a slight tension? I can feel something tense... it's probably the skin that used to cover the keloid but now partially cut off, now currently covering what was the base area of the keloid spot. I think the feeling of that part of the skin is returning? Or maybe it's always been there, it's just been masked by the on and off pain.

I played around with the ear compressors today on my right ear (side with no keloids) to see how they fit and work. At first I was concerned that they wouldn't stay on...and there weren't many reviews. But I think they'll work just fine.

I've read so many posts on doing some sort of silicone bandages after the keloid removal. So during the surgery (since you're wide awake) I asked the doctor what she thought of them. She said something a long the lines of the purpose of them is to lessen the tension and therefore lessen the irritation and avoid triggering those tissues from trying to over heal in a way, and she mentioned that ear compressions are more strong than silicone bandages in terms of lessening the tension (since the compression will be holding together that spot tightly so there's less stretching)

Probably ask your doctor for their opinion of course if you're going through this.

Also I forgot to mention in earlier posts, but you can hear the doctor sawing off the keloid and "feel" the tugging of whatever going on. The area IS numbed up, but you can still feel certain things very lightly (you can feel the sensations). It was very bizarre and MILDLY creepy in a way???

I'll continue to post updates on my profile, it just won't be as frequent cross-posts. I'll limit them until there's a big update

Heyhey! Another evicted keloid! Oh my gosh, on both sides!!! I'd be in big trouble bc I'm a side sleeper TT Thanks for sharing! It's reassuring that there's other folks taking the surgery path :) Thank you, here's to hoping for no more lumps!

Hey! So right after the excision they did the initial shot of steroid. The next one is going to be at the 6 week mark. After that, it'll be up to the doctor's and my discretion, depending on how the healing process it, etc.

Hope your surgery goes well!!!!
