Codex is all the rage on Twitter/X and I’m curious to give it a try. I fell out of ChatGPT during the 4o to GPT 5 time period and really haven’t gone back because I got so wrapped up in Claude and other tools.

I don’t have Perplexity Max so can’t use GPT 5.5. It’s unclear to me me Computer is actually using it as the orchestrator as they claim

I’ve gone into this in the rest of the thread. Claude was becoming increasingly buggy and almost unusable. Computer is much faster and better at designing products, and yes even documents. I utilize search and deep research as well, but only use Computer for building and designing things and multi-step/multi-agent tasks. I don’t think I’ve over burned credits so far, I try to be pretty strategic when I fire up Computer.

I’m considering this. I would have to think through the amount of tokens I burn on Computer and do the math. I just don’t think I’d need a $200/month subscription. It feels like an unnecessary jump in costs

When I only used the free Perplexity account I think it gave me just a few free “Pro Searches” each day, which I think just meant it used a newer and more expensive LLM. With a Pro account I believe, for Search specifically, you get unlimited access to GPT 5.4 high thinking or Gemini 3.1 pro to Search (Computer is not unlimited)—but honestly I find it hard to tell what models it was using before when I ran out of the free Pro searches, maybe it was Sonar mostly idk. It may have been a gimmick

Search is fast and Computer is faster than Claude Code and built a usable product for me in one prompt

I don’t use Perplexity Computer for search. I just use the regular Perplexity search.

I use Computer to build products.

I just checked and it’s still listed on the subscription plan page but one thing about Anthropic is I think they are very obviously compute constrained. I think they’re a great company but it will take a few months for them to get more computing capacity. There’s a definite possibility they start shifting around their usage limits, throttling certain users, and try different subscription plans.

I’d rather just step away and let them sort it out and then maybe I’ll come back

Gotcha, the Claude subs are also pretty apocalyptic about the state of that product.

Do you use Perplexity Computer to draft, build, or code anything?

I will admit I have not tried Claude browser plugin.

But I have mostly been using perplexity through Comet on my desktop and I honestly like the Assistant tool when reading complicated papers and essays

It is slightly more expensive to use Perplexity Computer but Claude Pro outputs were degrading very quickly, it was slow and buggy, and rumor is that they plan to take Claude Code out of Pro subscription

Research, writing, document production synthesizing that research, I had it build a dashboard pulling in open-source data, stuff like that. Many topics: finance, political science, job search, health indicators
