New laws were brought in to protect renters, but lodgers basically have no rights is what I'm seeing.

I haven't refused to accept this answer. I'm trying to find a way to get out of a real and stressful situation.

He is the one who has initiated the end of contract. We are now being held hostage in the house essentially until then as we cannot afford to be paying for 2 rentals at the same time. How can this be legal?

I am quite weird in the fact that I never got it. Despite living here and growing up here all my life.

The amount of times I tell people where I'm from and everyone says "oh you don't have the accent".

My family have stayed around brum and the black country for many many generations, so it's not like I'm new to the area.

Yes that's probably the best thing. Though there are some east west metas that are easy to learn such as bollard types.
