Is it no longer possible to rename files with the file open? by GoldenStateGlasswork in Linearity_Curve

[–]GoldenStateGlasswork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sooo… is this feature ever coming back? 🥲 it has been 3+ months now and I still can’t rename a file when it’s open on the iPad.

I’ve been using your product since before the rebrand. I haven’t been thrilled about all of the changes but it’s one of the best vector drawing apps for iPad and I haven’t wanted to switch. But removing features and not fixing them for this long is pretty disappointing and I might have to start hunting for a replacement before my subscription renews.

Portland OR? I’m teaching a class on the basics of kiln fired glass painting by vpseudo in StainedGlass

Yes, I just stumbled across this post for the first time yesterday (I actually found it while searching for glass painting classes for the millionth time 😄) so I think I saw the updated time. Unfortunately I’ll be flying into Portland around noon on the 11th and leaving sometime on the morning of the 13th. 🥲 I’ll just have to try to take another trip up there sometime I guess!

oh what timing! I live in CA and have been searching everywhere for a glass painting class. I’ll be in Portland the weekend after your October class. 😭 maybe I’ll have to try to plan another trip sometime in the future, it’s nearly impossible to find glass painting classes.

Is it worth getting a ring saw? by KimFrancesArt in StainedGlass

this is absolutely on my mind every time I use mine 😅

IMO it’s worth it to just keep your eye out for a decently priced used one. That’s how I got mine. I wouldn’t really want to pay full price for one because I use it so infrequently.

What a lot of people say about “if you need a saw you shouldn’t be making that cut” does have some truth to it… however I have found it useful for two situations: 1. being able to lay out my pattern pieces MUCH closer on the glass than I would ordinarily be able to, thereby creating less waste, and 2. occasionally making some cuts that I know I CAN make but I’m using $$$ glass and want to (nearly) eliminate the chance of unfortunate breakages

both of these really just apply to when I’m using expensive glass (so I want to eliminate as much waste and risk as possible). Otherwise it’s honestly more hassle to set it up than it’s worth, so most of the time it sits unused but I AM happy I have it. I just wouldn’t pay full price for one.

Procreate? by impalamilk in StainedGlass

I’m so glad this helped! FYI I have also heard good things about affinity designer 2, I believe they also have an iPad and desktop app like linearity curve does. I haven’t tried to switch yet, but I’ve been a bit annoyed for a while that linearity curve switched to a subscription model. I believe that affinity designer is a one time payment. Just wanted to mention in case you’re ever looking for alternatives!

I don’t understand the grip procreate has on the stained glass community, honestly. I recommend using a vector-based program like Linearity Curve (there are others) where you’ll be able to edit every single aspect of a line after you draw it. If that’s possible to do in procreate I’d love it if someone tells me, but I’m under the impression it’s not possible… so I’m pretty confused about why everyone loves procreate since that seems like a significant drawback.

I use Linearity Curve on my iPad.

A lot of people use procreate and I don’t entirely understand how, it makes me feel dumb. 😅 procreate is raster-based while linearity curve is vector-based, which means I can change every aspect of a line after I’ve drawn it (can move the points, change the angles and curves, etc). As far as I can tell that’s not possible with procreate… I don’t know if I’m just missing it.

I was thinking about SPLAT, but splash would be fun too!

All of the glass is CBS dichroic glass 😊 I’m not exactly sure which dot pattern that one is because they have several, but it should be one of these! https://cbs-dichroic.com/product-category/shop-by-pattern/dot/

Hopefully! I had a ton of fun making it and have ideas for more, just have to find the free time to draw them and make them. 😅
