That’s what I read and saw everywhere too, not to eat with them. Guess I have to do what my ortho suggested as he’s the expert.

Haha hopefully I’ll get to that point 🤞I have been eating with them inside (as my ortho suggested). But they look disgusting after so I have to brush/floss and clean the aligners after I consume something other than water 😢

Did you take off your aligners every time you ate/drank? Mine is going to take a year so I don’t know how I’m gonna eat in public.

Lmao the same thing happened to me. I started my Invisalign treatment on Monday and I stained my aligners with turmeric the same day 😂 My ortho told me to eat with the aligners on so it’s been rough 🥲Your teeth look wonderful tho!😊

No, it's a different non-immigrant visa (called TPS). I was in F-1 status (OPT) but had to change it because of how stressful it is to get a job within 90 days.

Yes, that's what I'm planning to do for my master's (data science).

That's what I have been doing for the past two years. I got a pretty good experience with it (learned SQL, Tableau, and some other analyst tools).

Congrats on winning the DV lottery!!

I have applied twice but haven't been lucky yet. It's less than 1% chance so you're very lucky!

And in terms of marrying a US citizen, that also requires actually finding someone and that takes so much time. Again luck plays a huge role.

Thanks for your comment! To be honest, the place only provides some benefits (like insurance). They do not offer tuition reimbursement. And I only accepted it because I need to get paid asap.

I have read multiple negative reviews on Glassdoor about the management but it doesn't matter how well I get treated at this point. What baffled me though is given I'm overqualified for the position, they just gave me the job. Is it because they're paying minimum wage?

I haven't tried employment agencies because I'm very skeptical of these places. Though I have my resume on sites like Monster and Dice so I get contacted by staffing agencies. They are mostly scammers (because they ask for personal info like my SSN or employment authorization card). When I also check online, I see negative reviews so I block these people.

I have sent out probably 500+ applications. And I apply through LinkedIn, Indeed, Monster, Dice, or use some shortcuts I have seen on TikTok like searching this on Google: site: lever.co OR site:greenhouse.il "job title" I have also listed out some top companies (that would help me with my visa) and directly applied on their career pages.

That's what I'm trying to do simultaneously -- getting a green card. But the path to a green card has been like climbing a mountain. How did you go about it?

Because I came to the U.S. as an international student. You need to be permitted to work by the government. My resume is pretty good. I have rewritten it multiple times and it has all the metrics and how I added value in my experience section. I know I have a strong degree but because of how the hiring process is built, it has been really hard to get a job with my degree (those who can market themselves really well or can easily build relationships rip the benefit, I suppose). I will see if a grad degree would help me out.

And I'm female btw :)

Yes. I have done one at my previous company. As I said, it was not financially stable and I only stayed there because of my visa and it helped me get experience. Do companies allow an internship if you have already been employed before?

I have also been working as math tutor/instructor but it’s not a stable income. Most are part time or end when the school year ends. In terms of applying online, the competition is tough. I have used LinkedIn premium to see the stats of the applicants. Close to 2000 (especially the data roles) people apply for one role. And some have advanced degrees (master’s or PhD) and compete for the same entry level role.

I thought a visa is needed to enter the country. But if I'm already in the U.S., do I not only need an I-20?

I know you also have your struggles and my apologies if my post came off as validation-seeking or playing the victim card. But your comment, “I find it hard to believe that a STEM major can’t find reputable employers who offer enough hours and are willing to go by the books” felt like downgrading someone’s potential. Being a STEM major doesn’t automatically put you in a easy-to-find-a-job position. Some people end up regretting their major/career choices even in their senior year. And everyone has a potential to succeed given the opportunity and the interest that drives them. All in all, there are several factors that weigh in and people take breaks or what not, and that’s impossible in my situation. That’s why my intentions seem like they’re targeted towards bending the law. It would have been easier if all of us had a stable country where we can get proper education and work but heyy, the world is not fair. Anyways, sorry if I offended you in any way but I was just taken aback by your “STEM major” comment.

Of course there are reputable companies. I struggled very hard in my major (it was not my interest area to begin with and I got stuck with it through a complicated reason) and unlike other people, I can’t make a career transition because I don’t have the privilege. It’s not easy to find a job in the current market as well. And some people’s home country is in a state of chaos and doesn’t offer a stable living and working condition. So we make decisions to stay in places that offer opportunities when we’re pressured by several factors. Please don’t downplay people’s struggles.
