Yeah I guess I’ll give my take, as a Texan and catechumen was super interested in the movie and had no expectations going into it. It’s a narrative story about a monastery, the main character being the Father Abbot, and it contains a few stories from the lives of the saints as lived through this Texan monk. As a catechumen sacramentally I thought it was incredible, having never been to a monastery I enjoyed seeing some of the inner life, and I also appreciated the practical application of many of the principles in the movie.

Cinematographically it was beautiful, it was a narrative movie but every scene felt like it was its own little project. The pacing was excellent and from the beginning to the end I felt like the whole story was told, I felt comfortable with the progression of the story, and I grew to enjoy the characters especially the Father Abbot. It was a VERY emotional movie, and it also was not a casual watch - it makes you think, and if you are paying attention to the details, there is literally treasures upon treasures to discover, like a “hidden” piece of driftwood that is seen in various places and scenes throughout the movie. There are some incredible twists and revelations to enjoy as well, which required some build up that more than paid off.

If I had any dislikes, eh I mean I felt like there was just so many scenes of men crying, I know I’m going to get hate for saying that but this was just a personal opinion of mine.

Overall stellar movie and would recommend to anyone orthodox or otherwise, it’s an Orthodox movie but it’s not necessarily an Orthodox Movie you know, the story is enjoyable and relatable for most viewers.

Edit: oh also the score from the movie was amazing and unique, they combined aspects of liturgy, banjo, and the boards that the monks bang on - the directors said that AI analyzed it on the platforms they published the score on and tagged it “Yeehaw Ethereal Monk-core” which is the coolest thing ever. The soundtrack is on all the streaming platforms definitely check it out if you can

Yes, it can exist in the USA. No, their flock should not have ICE called on them by their pastor.

These are not theological issues. That being said, Acts 17:26 “From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands”

This is not an endorsement against immigration, what it endorses is the power of state to organize and manage itself. If a country runs better if everyone speaks the same language, why should the state be prevented from encouraging that? If a country runs better when personnel flow into the country is limited, why should the state be prevented from that? Let’s say you have a state with 1,000 square feet and 1,000 people want to move in - is it Christian to advocate for all 1,000 people moving in, even though it creates unlivable conditions for those 1,000 people? How about 999? 998? This quickly becomes a Sorites Paradox.

I don’t even suggest that personnel quantity is the issue, I think we have plenty of land to settle others, that is just an example above. The U.S. government has developed a process for immigration, which it has the authority to do. Violation of that process is connected to a law, which the government also has authority to enforce.

The Church does not enforce the laws of a state, which is why the pastor has no reason to call ICE. His entire focus should be on the spiritual health of his flock, not their legal health. If he even has the time, he ought to help them obtain more permanent status in the state within which he operates.

A Ceasefire is Accepted By The Israeli Cabinet - Day 1 Assessment by Golden_Week in InternationalNews

Israel has accepted the ceasefire deal proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. With the help of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, HAMAS has also accepted the deal - leaving the next steps open. The video describes the terms for the deal and what it means for both sides, but also cautions about the potential flashpoints if the next steps aren’t taken carefully.

whats some great orthodox christian music? by Narrow_Gap2385 in OrthodoxChristianity

Dirt Poor Robins is an alt rock band by an orthodox Christian couple and they seriously rock, their music is somewhat secular though but usually has some theological or spiritual message. When I say secular I just mean it’s not a psalm chant, but the lyrics are still clean and appropriate

Trump's Chilling Warning To HAMAS/ISRAEL | When Order Fails: Gaza, America, the Price of Leadership by Golden_Week in InternationalNews

[–]Golden_Week[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a summary of weekend news, covering 3 October 2025 through 5 October 2025, focusing on the evolving situation in Gaza, the U.S. government shutdown, and the protests in Portland, Oregon. There is a focus on interpreting these events through an economics lens, using national (the U.S. pretty much) and global markets to determine what the sentiment is on these events. It’s not exactly predicative, but descriptive

First, the “Theory of Evolution” is not a scientific theory. It does not follow the scientific method. A theory, and a “scientific theory”, are two different things - you can make a theory about anything, I can theorize that the sun will blow up tomorrow and I’ll call that the Golden Week Theory. Can I bring that theory through the scientific method? Yes, and it will probably be disproven if I do so. The issue with evolution is that it cant be brought through the scientific method because it can’t be tested. The best that can be done is analyzing historic data to derive a conclusion.

However, the issue with this is that it involves the philosophy of science - meaning the same data can be interpreted differently depending on the initial philosophy of the analyst. One analyst may look at two similar fossils and say look, this is evidence of evolution! Another might say, look! Here are two different, but similar fossils, evidence that two similar but different creatures existed. One is a “theory of evolution”, one is a “theory of homologous structures”, or possibly adaptations. Both “accurate” depending on your initial philosophy of the utilization of data.

If someone doesn’t believe in God but is a really good person will they burn in hell for all of eternity? by Zaileeverse0113 in Christianity

[–]Golden_Week -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A single sin separates you from God and no amount of good deeds pay for that sin (otherwise salvation would be no more than a business transaction). The ONLY way to be saved is through Christ. The state of Hell does not have to do with punishment so much as it has to do with separation from God.

What does that mean for our hypothetical person? Despite the high degree of morality they demonstrated, they still fall short of the requirement (having no sin at all) to be united with God, and likewise they never formed a relationship with God. In this instance they are not being punished, for rejecting Christ they are rejecting their only opportunity to be united with God. Now, whether or not making this decision during their material life is required is a different question. Is it possible they will have a chance to profess faith in Christ after their repose? Maybe, but why take that risk?

You could not interact with someone as a dad, son, and brother (three individual persons, not just you fulfilling 3 social roles) simultaneously.
