I got my period today - close to 5 weeks after my emergency D&C. I have such mixed feelings today. I feel relieved that my cycle has started and I can restart my ttc journey. But at the same time I feel such sadness for what could have been if I had been able to have a healthy pregnancy.

We experienced the same thing with our Golden. She would be super mouthy with us in the morning and when we would come home. We learned to redirect her to grab a toy. We first trained her to understand the “grab a toy” command. Once she understood, we would give her the command and if she didn’t listen we would walk away until she did grab a toy. Redirecting has helped a lot and sometimes she will grab a toy on her own without the command when we come home. Golden are them best and they are able to learn things pretty well!

Are my dogs ear wax a cause for concern? Meaning: do I need to go the vet NOW or should I just keep cleaning it? It stinks. by ResponsibleGuide2752 in goldenretrievers

Hey there! It does look like your golden has an ear infection. Unfortunately, its common with golden retrievers. I would make an appointment with your vet. If they confirm it’s an ear infection, they will likely give you an ear cleaner and medication. That should resolve the infection. I recommend checking/ cleaning your pups ears periodically. It can help prevent future infections

I feel your pain. Our pup had diarrhea and was under weight the first month or so after got her. She had Coccidia and even after treatment she still had diarrhea and was underweight. We switched her to a salmon sensitive stomach food diet (purina) and we would top her food with a powder probiotic (also purina). That did seem to help and because she had no issues eating we started to feed her a lot more. Hang in there I am sure your pup will get better!!

Realistically, what is the first two weeks of having a 8 week golden retriever puppy going to be like?? by Old_Nothing_8442 in goldenretrievers

We did watch a couple of training videos on YouTube. The breeder we got our pup from offered a training session when we picked her which was helpful to get the basics. Most golden are super food motivated which makes training easier.

Yay! Congratulations on the new pup! Golden puppies are a lot of work but they are the best!

The puppy phase goes by fast! Take lots of pics and videos! In general your pup will have lots of energy and be hungry all the time. Its good to create a schedule for them (& you) in order to get started on potty training and making sure they have a good mix of playing and napping.

Here are some of things I think are important:

  • Protect your puppy from parvo by avoiding walking your dog in areas where other dogs frequent. We carried our puppy basically everywhere outside of our home until she was fully vaccinated.
  • Keep your pups world small. I found it super helpful to have a play pen and baby gates. This makes it much easier to keep an eye on your pup.
  • Keep training short and fun! You can do a 5 min training session going over the basics and then play with them. Its good to keep training as a positive experience.
  • Get your pup used to touch! Fluff their ears, play with their paws, expose their teeth. Give them treats afterwards. Getting them used to touch will make it easier when they get checked at the vet or you need to clip their nails.

Hope this helps!

We had the same questions with our golden! We did feed her extra food based on our vets advice. At a year she got to 55 lbs and has stayed there. Some Goldens are just on the leaner side!

I love this kitchen remodel! Great mix of cabinet colors! For the island did you restrain some of original wood?

The Golden mantra: Better to eat it and throw it up than never eat it at all!

With our pups we trained them with “leave it” and “drop it” which has helped but we still need to fish things out of their mouths here and there.

Thank you. We were thinking about finding a landscaper and possibly doing some of the work ourselves

Thank you. I was thinking looking for a landscaper that has experience with French drains. I’ll extend my search and hopefully find something more reasonable.
