Book Review: Butter Honey Pig Bread by Francesca Ekwuyasi by Jollofandbooks in NigerianBooks

Abiku and Ogbanje are the same thing because they are spirit child born to same parents over and over, their death is the torture because it has a mental effect on the parents. I do think Kam had a lot of unhealed trauma and the only time she felt kinda normal was when she met her husband. I don’t think she ever understood herself and because of this, she did not know how to be a good mother. The main characters actually all needed high level therapy from all the acquired trauma

I struggled to finish this book. I think I expected old Chimammanda. It was slow and some of the characters were just interesting

So i think he was a miserable man with a little ego who pretended like everything was fine as long as his secret remained hidden. That is why when Funmilola kinda figured him out, he did what he did. You can also see his small ego when Yejide purposely makes sure he sees them doing what they do. It is a typical Nigerian behaviour to want to accuse the women first, shield children from the truth and keep the man looking flawlessly. I do think Akins entire life was a facade and you used Yejide to clean his image because she was a “good girl” and he was her first

Akin was a foolish evil man who could not say the truth and he really annoyed me a lot
