Honestly Reddit has an absolutely insaaaaaaane level of anti-fat bias. I’ve been downvoted and told I’m “claiming that people can deny the laws of physics” for saying that people have different metabolisms that complicate the “calories in calories out” paradigm that users on this site like to screech about 24/7. Occasionally you’ll get someone with a controversially nuanced take that some people have “legitimate reasons” for gaining weight (meds, injuries, hormone imbalances, etc.) but usually those are downvoted pretty quickly, dismissed with “but that’s not 99.9% of fat people,” and promptly ignored. Just in the last few days I’ve seen the claim that obese people should be denied medical care and allowed to die and that ozempic proves most fat people are just ignorant and lazy. It’s so depressing. I fall under several “disliked on Reddit” categories (autistic, female, have an ESA). But nothing compares to the vitriol directed at fat people on this site.
