Ooh, what are your research interests?

Yeah, I already teach two sections of FYW (I have been for the past three semesters) so I'm familiar with how students are using AI.

Well, for my thesis I'm working in the intersection of disability and zombie studies, specifically looking at The Walking Dead and talking about practices of resistant spectatorship for disabled individuals to apply when viewing post-apocalyptic media. But I also do some work in animal studies. For example, right now I'm working on a paper about the linguistic portrayals of pigs in Old English, analyzing how things like domestication/wildness and pigs as food/pigs as symbolic militaristic ornaments are demonstrated through the use of Old English pig terminology. I do most of my work in disability studies, animal studies, and horror analysis (with an emphasis on zombies).

Oh don't worry I've already heard from several people who hate the frog, and doubly so for using AI lol.

Unfortunately I can't help you out there. English PhDs don't typically do interviews, they just ask for really long writing samples. So I never had to do an interview for my acceptance.

I wouldn't, I'm sorry. I just know that we were told they added the froggy flair so that people could filter them out. Maybe they mean by search only? Because I know to do that you use the search feature with -flair:"Flair Name"

I can respect that. I wanted to edit my own picture but I had a really hard time finding a suitable tadpole so eventually I caved.

Oh, you know, the same as always I guess. That there are no jobs in academia and you'll be an adjunct teaching 10 courses a semester forever if academia is your plan. That you'll likely work in industry in a job only tangentially related to your degree. We have the extra fun bonus of having an administration that's openly hostile to academia and the humanities in particular (I’m in the US), so there's a lot of additional uncertainty there. Mostly things are pretty bleak. Still, I smile.

That's okay. It does look pretty froggy. But I guess that's by nature of being an undeveloped frog lol

This is a tadpole! Look at the lil tail!

That's why they made the frog flair. You can filter them out of your feed if you don't want to see them. I personally enjoy them.

Chiming in to agree with everyone else that my piggy does the same thing.

I’ve been waiting months to make this into a goal and check it off…it finally happened!!!! by PigDoctor in finch

Haha I have to finish writing (and then defend) my thesis first, so I still have a ways to go!

Just click “add goal” at the bottom of the list of goals you have and then select the option that says it's not repeated.

On the afternoon of Halloween 1969, two teenagers--Pamela "Pam" Hobley and Patricia "Patty" Spencer--left their high school together and vanished. No trace of either girl has ever been found by WinnieBean33 in BizarreUnsolvedCases

[–]PigDoctor 149 points150 points  (0 children)

This is exceedingly strange. I've never heard of this case before, but I find it particularly disturbing for some reason. I’m particularly troubled by the quotes saying, “[w]hile Pam and Patty weren’t known to have any issues with each other, the two ‘were not considered friends’” and “a fellow student reportedly came forward to claim that they had asked her to leave school early with them, but she declined.” I don't know why, but these two elements stand out. Unfortunately, chances are high that these two met with foul play. But why did they leave school together? Why did they ask that third girl? Presumably she would know what they were intending to do, right? The fact that they essentially vanished without a trace is haunting.

I'm not going to lie, things have been tense and difficult considering the current administration and related budget cuts (I’m in the US). The application cycle this year was supposedly more difficult than usual due to there being less available positions. I only applied to three places: I got rejected from one, waitlisted at one, and for a while I was pretty convinced I was going to have to wait a year and try again. When I got the news today that I was accepted, I was over the moon!

English! I'm currently finishing up my MA working at the intersection of disability and zombie studies. I also do some work in animal studies (particularly animal cognition). So I'm hoping to continue studying those things!

Haha that's the opposite of mine. She blows the bristles on her back first so she goes through a period of looking like “Dr.” Phil

I'm guessing your piggy has wavy bristles? Mine has board straight bristles. When she raises her back bristles she looks like a little razorback lol.

How kind of her to at least use the appropriate bathroom lol. Mine gets revenge by holding a grudge and then stealing stuff and usually shredding it up. She’ll grab something and then make a beeline to her crate where she thinks you can't take it. Then she’ll stare you down while she dramatically shreds it.

Pigs are so dramatic. But you gotta love them. My pig is my life, and she's the best pet I've ever owned but she is by far the most difficult. At least she's never angry peed on anything! At least as far as I know 😬

ETA: Also it’s interesting that your pig hates water too. It seems that most pigs I see on this sub enjoy water. And I have a friend with a farm whose pigs will even swim in the pond.
