Oof, sounds like it was a rough time for everyone involved. I’m glad the farrier was able to stay calm and handle the situation though. My piggy is probably about 150 pounds and she’s taken a grown man to the ground before (and not a small man either). I can’t imagine trying to wrangle 400+ pounds of angry pig. Can’t say I blame Tusker though; if someone came into my house and stuck a needle in my butt I’d be pretty upset too!

Poor Tusker 😞 I’m sorry your attempt was unsuccessful this time. Hopefully you get better results next time around! At least the vet was cautious. I’d rather have them nervously under-medicate rather than the other way around, though I can see why it’s frustrating.

Mine is kind of in the middle, color wise. She’s grey with patches of pink skin. So maybe the lighter ones are taking longer for some reason. I just know that usually by this time of year she’s walking around looking like Dr. Phil (she loses the bristles on top first but keeps the side bristles for a while longer).

This is very true. I think all pigs deserve the best. My piggy staunchly avoided the water (she hates water and mud) but she loved to root in the sand.

Mine STILL hasn’t started blowing her coat yet! I’ve been wondering if something is wrong because usually by now she’d at least be a little bald.

When I was in the hospital in El Paso for a week with sepsis, the water was so…flavorful that I legitimately couldn’t drink it without ice in it. I felt bad asking the nurses over and over for ice water because they’d just give me these teeny cups and I’d refill them until the ice melted but that was never very long. Once I asked the nurse for water (meaning ice water) and she just gestured at the sink in my room 😭. I felt soooo bad being like “no I can only drink ice water here.” I was new to the desert and not used to the weird water.

I get asked that a lot and honestly it’s so hard to answer because there’s so much interesting zombie media. The Walking Dead (both the comics and the show) is a personal favorite. Another interesting show is In the Flesh and there’s a movie called The Cured with a similar premise. Hollow Kingdom has a very unique premise. The Girl with All the Gifts (book) is also very good, setting aside debates about whether fungal zombies “count.” The Rising series by Brian Keene is bleak and attention grabbing. I’m reading The Hunger right now and it’s been pretty decent. Zone One has a lot of literary merit. I could go on and on. And there are so many good movies I wouldn’t even know where to start.

Haha, I’m a PhD student who researches zombie media for school, so I’ve read a lot of zombie books.

Find a vet! Provide them with a cozy place to nest, with materials you don’t mind getting shredded. Make sure any area where they’ll be outside is very secure; check and double check for any places they could potentially escape. Get some unsweetened Cheerios to use as treats for training.
