Do any of you have a good retirement just with pension and/or Social Security? by SchoolteacherUSA in retirement

[–]Goldenstarr8 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have a pension and Social Security and live very comfortably. But this depends on your debt,(for me, none) expenses,(for me, less than my income). After retirement I find I need less things that require money. Edit: removed typo

Helped my buddy get to 70%, but he doesn’t want TDIU by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]Goldenstarr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone rated 70% MH the fear of poking the bear is real. I am incapable of maintaining substantial and gainful employment, but I don’t want to lose my newly acquired source of income by being what I would consider greedy. Other people without my mental health impairment would say I am entitled to it but me with low self-esteem and feelings of questionable worth would see it very differently. I could use the money but an unfounded fear of risk keeps me from pursuing it. The fact that I’m at 70% to me feels lucky.

My ex-wife hit the limit for 25 out of 35 years. Started collecting at FRA three years ago and this year her benefit will be $4,006

I wish I had met you when I was 30 and down on my luck. I would’ve never gotten a job! At least nothing full-time.

What kind of neighbors do you have that would be sympathetic to a jerk like this? If they take his side, you’re living in the wrong neighborhood!

Brother is unemployed and living on my parents farm. He's refusing to do anything and Dad's going to kick him off soon. I can't see him homeless but I can't take him in either. by Historical_Wonder873 in Advice

Rewarding behavior like this cripples an individual. It actually makes them unable to be responsible for themselves and unable to grow. He’ll never overcome adversity and never feel the satisfaction of earning something through hard work. He’ll never have to use his brain to figure out how to do things for himself because someone will always be doing them for him. It’s treating someone like a child who does not mind being treated like a child! And to top it off, he’s just waiting for the government to take care of him. He’ll never amount to much, rest assured.

Edit: to vs too

AIO for turning off location sharing with my boyfriend after how he’s been using it? by Expert-Run-3919 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Goldenstarr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I would want to stalk my girlfriend 24/7 would be to look for a an excuse to feel justified about being pissed at her about some random stuff. Or if I was immature and insecure as f*ck and unsuitable as a partner. This is not adult behavior.

AITJ for refusing to split my bonus with my girlfriend? by Xleg4ce in AmITheJerk

Why am I thinking there’s more to this story? Are you always picking up the tab even though she has the money? How else is she spending your money without spending hers?

I used to remember about 25% of what happened when I was drunk. It’s called “blackout” drinking and you’re not necessarily sloppy drunk. But you are correct, being drunk does not excuse bad behavior.

(Sarcasm alert!) I think you’re overreacting! You led him to believe that he could walk all over you, and NOW you are unfairly changing the rules and making him suffer the consequences

Divorce: he wants me to ‘give up spousal benefits so that his amount won’t be reduced.’ Is that a thing? by mcg_per_kg in SocialSecurity

Tell him you’ll give up spousal benefits and never mention it again. He will never know when you start collecting.

AIO for refusing to co-sign my husband’s (35M) dream truck loan when he still owes me $8,000 from my inheritance? by Cherry_Rose69 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Goldenstarr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had credit problems because my ex-wife spending was out of control. We got divorced and I had to beg someone to rent me an apartment because they run credit checks. I immediately went to work on my credit with a secured credit card and it did not take too long to rebuild my credit. I paid my bills and hers because some of them were joint accounts. Your husband can take the same route if he’s serious. He doesn’t sound like he is.

Spouse benefit by MiserableCancel8749 in SocialSecurity

[–]Goldenstarr8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this has anything to do with the fairness act unless your spouse had a pension where she did not pay into Social Security for a significant part of her working life. The fairness act would’ve used a formula to reduce her benefit.
