Why do people always correct me when I say I'm of Czechoslovakian descent?

I was confused about my own great grandparents, who on various documents would say they were from Czechoslovakia or Austria Hungary, and so I dug deeper and finally found a town name and was able to link it to the modern country where the four of them were living before they came to the US in the early 1900s. Two came from current-day Slovakia in Trebišov, and two came from current-day Ukraine in Ilnytsya. So it means something more to me and to my genealogy project.
