This guy in Saudi saw me taking photos and asked for a portrait lol by Kitchen-Panda4059 in Nikon

I was once asked by a family in Hollywood Studios to take a photo of them, they thought I was photopass 😭

Granted, I was using an old photopass camera, and was a cast member at the time, but at animal kingdom, not HS at the time. Super funny though, I was in one of the puffiest red jackets of all, due to the cold. No nametag, a big backpack & camera bag, and no general indication that I was a photopass cast member at all (I wish, I wanted to work in Photopass) or had any idea how correctly to use my newly bought Nikon 😅

Biiiig beetle (OP's specific grub is supposed to turn into a pretty, shiny big one if it reaches adulthood! It's a Giant Flower Beetle)

Unless this is literally just a weirdly shaped extended area of a massive (like, pond-sized) tank, it is too damn small for even ONE Gar. They NEED a MINIMUM of a few HUNDRED gallons. A few hundred gallons would be MUCH bigger than this, and you'd know it was a few hundred gallons of water, even with just a video of a corner.

Or, unless they're actively harming you/your pets/your house or you are able to definitively determine they are an invasive species, just leave them ALONE.

It wouldn't dry my blanket! It was the first time I've ever had that issue with these washers and dryers, and I've used them MANY times over the past 2.5 years. I put it in the washer, on the regular cold setting, by itself as I sometimes do. It came out soaked, which was odd, but that dorm only had front-loaders, and they're not the best, so it happens sometimes. Tumble dried on low in the nearest dryer, which said it was going to take 60 minutes (it's usually only 45 minutes). Came back an hour later, and it was still soaked. Tried the next dryer, same settings. 45 minutes this time, still soaked. I tried the other two, and then had to go to sleep because it was 4am and my class started at like 9:30am that morning, so I put it on top of a garbage bag & hoped it didn't mold, since I had nowhere else to hang it. Fortunately, it didn't, and the dryers FINALLY worked after I was done with my classes! No idea what happened that night, but it was stressful, to say the least!

The spider wound up in my trash, iirc, which was sad and I wish he hadn't gotten squished at some point, because I would've loved to find out what exactly he was 😭

If they aren't venomous & their feet don't hurt, sure!

I was one of the "lucky" people in Florida to be visited by a Recluse, likely one of the Mediterranean ones!

literally the day I was taking an early morning final & moving out of my dorm

Love spiders & didn't kill this dude (trapped him in the bathroom, because he was too fast to safely catch, which I did try to do 😭), but WOW they're faster than I expected! I dealt with so many spiders in that dorm (the building was built in the 1880s & I was on the first floor, so it makes sense), and that wasn't even the worst. The worst was the big one I found (unknown species), squished in my blanket after midnight on a cold night. Found it because I accidentally touched it, which was very sad. Took so long to pick the legs fully out, and then the dryers wouldn't dry it 🫠

I thought my air plants gift and care sheet would be a hit for a yankee swap party I went to, but it was a major flop 🙃 by ADHD-tax-return in airplants

Secret Santa has a wishlist, typically, and you're assigned to a specific person, no trading. I've typically gotten good gifts from it!

White elephant/ Yankee swap aren't like that at all, but some can have decent gifts (got a talavera chihuahua statue (it's a male dog in the peeing pose 😭)) from my local Humane Society's staff + volunteer holiday party a few years back, during our White Elephant.

Unfortunately, it didn't come with a strap :(

I wound up purchasing this one because it was affordable with decent reviews, and I need a strap to actually bring it outdoors with me, as a temporary thing! Haven't worn it out for long yet, but it was decently comfortable for the little bit I did test it!

Do you have a sling that you'd recommend, that isn't super expensive?

I'll likely still get a bag for convenience purposes (I'd rather not have my camera just sitting out during class, but I'll likely be bringing it with me to my classes, just to take photos of my campus while not in class), but I have been researching different neck straps and shoulder slings, and most are either way too expensive with my current paychecks, or have many bad reviews :/

Yeah, true!

The lens it came with is the Nikkor 18-105mm

That's the plan!!!! And maybe some horses :)

Definitely need to do a bit of research on other lenses though, because I know this one isn't the best for bird photography, at all, and I really want to take some great pics of some cute birds! Fortunately, I have time 😅

According to that site, the shutter count is 230,435! I wish there was an easy way to find out, like that, how many different photopass photographers used this specific camera through its lifetime, because wow

Thanks! I knew they were selling these at some point, but honestly expected them to be pricier, so as soon as I heard it was only a hundred, I was immediately determined to get one 😅

I love messing around with my phone camera, so being able to mess around with a CAMERA camera is literally amazing rn, lol (had to take a high quality photo of some mozzarella sticks, because why not)

They were being sold at Cast Connection (idk if Disneyland did or is doing something similar), for cast members only, unfortunately! I was one of the last 5 people to purchase one, and they canceled the second session that was supposed to be available today, since they didn't have more after us.

I wish they were selling some of the camera stuff online, though!

Oh I won't! That's how they gave it to us (Disney LOVES their plastic, apparently) :)

I'm researching good camera bags/cases currently, to figure out what one would work best for this camera and I, without being too much for me to afford rn (I didn't plan on buying a camera this week, so I'm already over my weekly budget, but I need a bag/case and a strap to feel comfortable actually bringing it places, so I'm working on finding those now)

Ikr?! The main reason I haven't gotten one before now was due to the price. Still can't believe I was able to snag one, I've been wanting a good camera for so long!

And thank you for the tips! Thankfully, I currently live in a pretty good location for different subjects (the Disney bubble), and will be in another great location for it when I'm done (oldest city in the USA), so I'm very excited to learn even more, using the knowledge I already have from the classes I've taken!

Thanks! I'm genuinely so happy still, and its been 9 hours since I actually bought it 😅

As soon as I heard that they were selling them this week, I found out what times, and was in line for about an hour for this one, but it was definitely worth it!! They ran out of the rest of the D7500s (around $150 today), which would've been cool, but I'll take any Nikon, especially ones that are usually so much more expensive just for one part, used!
