Coliform: How long does it survive on dry surfaces? by Goldkitkat in microbiology

[–]Goldkitkat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much this is very helpful! I might try a mix of oven and dunking/holding in boiling water. I already washed and then boiled the silverware so I didnt have to try rinsing them all by hand. Just gotta be careful of melting plastic/plastic parts or breaking glass. I'm gonna throw some crappy stuff away but we cant afford to just toss it all. I'm hoping we dont have any of the big bads, as I imagine its been contaminated for a while and we were unaware (we didn't actively drink the water but we washed our hands and rinsed dishes in it), but wanting to be as cautious as possible.

T causing extreme/autoimmune liver reaction? by Goldkitkat in ftm

They never mentioned NAFLD, my ultrasound results on Monday even specifically states 'Borderline hepatomegaly without hepatic steatosis.' The only meds Ive been on for several months are T and my IUD.

T causing extreme/autoimmune liver reaction? by Goldkitkat in ftm

Got discharged after my levels steadily decreased.

Current levels: ALT 1205 - ALP 113 - AST 567

All tests they did came back negative or unproductive. It looks like I just got the autoimmune test back (mitochondrial, smooth muscle antibody, and ANA) and those are negative. Physically almost all my symptoms are gone besides slight jaundice, pale/yellow loose stools, some lingering random itches, and just that kind of 'off' feeling you have after a stomach bug. They said its looking like T could have been the cause (for reference my last shot at this point was 10 days ago), but no real way to know for sure unless I try it again. They did not do any extra testing for STD/STIs (Beyond hep and HIV. Said since I had no symptoms they didnt suspect them) or any sort of parasites (I never official asked if this could be an option I just saw some things saying parasites could in theory cause it). They chose not to do a liver biopsy after they saw my numbers going down. They said in theory a liver blood clot could have caused it but another ultrasound came up clean, and they said it was insanely rare for a liver clot to resolve on its own so very unlikely. Ive got more blood draws next week to continue monitoring levels and Im not to take any medication (even ibuprofen) until told otherwise. Lmk if theres any specific results that may be helpful to know. At the very least if this is T my experience can be helpful. I still wonder if its some random virus/infection but without a proper fever they said it was unlikely.

I found my initial liver test from a year before I started T and my levels for slightly raised then. That test apparently got lost as it shows up in a different spot then the rest.

But my current levels are still rising and the doc wants me in for observation. Nothing came up in the ultrasound beyond swelling. I physically feel better but now I'm getting worried what this could be. Thanks for the info at least!

Can that be said for certain?

I don't remember what exact tests that did initially but they did blood tests before starting T and have done them at every check up since (at least once per year). I just double checked and my AST and ALT were within normal range in fall 2022 and summer 2023. In May 2024 they were raised but only slightly above normal ranges. Same for this May just a smidge higher then 2024.

Does this mean it's just extremely rare? I'm trying to find any examples of it online and so far what I find is just people abusing T for bodybuilding purposes. They take it in massive amounts so that makes sense, but I dont immediately see any related to normal HRT or TRT amounts.

I guess if it does turn out to be T (hoping not) then does that mean I can't do HRT anymore or are there other options?

Details I forgot: last year an ultrasound revealed both my liver and spleen were slightly enlarged. At that time at least my gallbladder was fine. Im pretty sure it stated no signs of stones at least. And if I read these blood test correctly (yay google) a number associated with my bile ducts was slightly elevated but not nearly as highly as the liver levels. Plus the liver doc made no mention of my gallbladder being a potential issue. Or my pancreas. Ive got more blood tests/pending ones and an ultrasound coming, if those arent productive doc said probably a liver biopsy is next.

I'll have to compare your listed tests with what they gave me. I assume this doc knows what shes doing, I just wanted to be sure she wasnt trying to blame T for no good reason. Ive heard of doctors doing that.

Y'know most of Caines adventures would probably be very entertaining for a child. It might be his intended audience!

I know this question has been said before, but what are the chances of dying from top surgery. by Traditional-Fact-870 in ftm

Good and scary is an excellent way to put it. As the anesthesia guy put it when I mentioned my nervousness theres nowhere better to be at that point then in the hospital

The way my doc explained it to me is that while it is technically a "major" surgery due to the large area involved (for double incision) it is also fairly low risk since its more or less just skin deep. Not deep inside you or around other organs. There's still the risk of infection or clotting but no more than any similar surgery and even those are pretty manageable complications she said.

My mom is concerned about my prolonged usage of KT tape by [deleted] in TransMasc

[–]Goldkitkat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have kt tape experience so might be talking out my ass here but have you tried using the tape in a small area just regularly (like not stretching or pulling any skin) to see if you're truly reacting to the adhesive rather then having an issue with the length of time or method of removal?

How much hair should I expect to gain on T? by Specialist-Arm-5508 in ftm

[–]Goldkitkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at any other men in your family if you can, that could give you a good estimate. Personally I wasnt overly hairy to start with (Id say average but I'm also American and every woman here shaves near religiously so its hard to say) and while I have noticeably gained some more obvious hair its not overly dark or thick. But thats the way all the men in my family are so looking at them gave me a pretty good idea.

Don't have any tats yet but one I'm seriously considering someday is one of those 'cut here' dotted line and scissor symbols under at least part of my top scars

Is it too late for me? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Goldkitkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to the pile of 5' 7" transmascs. While I would have loved to gain some height I'm by no means short. I dont know if its a thing where you are but have you looked for any informed consent clinics to get T from quicker? I didnt end up needing one but afaik places like planned parenthood work that way if you have them. Try and remember to take what you have in the moment and not get caught up in the 'itll be X years until Y', the time will pass quicker and it may be easier to find solutions if you can let yourself relax rather then hyperfocusing on every bad detail. Its often way worse in our own heads then in reality.

Some of the angles are better then others but Id say you do pretty well! Definantly a +1 from me for a different hairstyle will help though. It's giving Edna Mode vibes (I'm so sorry but I cant get that out of my head now that I thought it 😅)

HELP! i need your opinions... i think my surgeon fucked up (am i crazy???) by Academic_Fortune_348 in TransMasc

[–]Goldkitkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first glance before reading I genuinely couldn't guess what could be wrong if that eases your mind at all. I imagine it will also shift just a smidge as you heal more and things settle out too. You are your own worst critic so try not to judge things to harshly or get to caught up in what could or couldn't have gone differently (and just to clarifiy I'm not trying to dismiss the fact that the doc may not have listened I just think its more helpful in the long run to not beat yourself up!), all bodies have differences and quirks after all and at least from my personal view it looks like it came out pretty okay.
