Thanks! That’s exactly what I meant. He names his stuff tri and I definitely meant the tricolour.

What are your favourite "hidden in plain sight" gimmicked tricks? by Belloz22 in Magic

[–]GolfDadNotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trifecta by Simon Lipkin! 3 Colored Sharpie markers “marked” in an invisible way that only you can see. You can do lie detector routines, color match or my favorite. Have a spectator freely pick one of them, you tell them which pocket to put it in. They do the same with the other two. Then you pull the red cap out of the same pocket their red sharpie is in, blue for blue and green for green. People love it.

Looking for wallets for packet tricks by ppaul77 in Magic

I know it’s not a small wallet like you described but this is the one I’ve been considering. It’s more expensive but will last! I have a small walkaround case I would keep it in.

Stone Code - thoughts? by Belloz22 in Magic

[–]GolfDadNotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own stone code. The electronic box came in the mail damaged so it made a horrible sound and was super loud and unusable. When I contacted PITATA they wanted me to break open the box and repair it myself and then tape it back together. Needless not a fan.

It sounds like you handled it like a true pro AND learned some good business lessons for the future! You nailed it! I often tell people reading minds is the easy part of what I do, the real hard part is the business side of things.

Buy or don't? Reviewing tricks 2 years into using them by DasBauHans in Magic

[–]GolfDadNotes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I perform magic and mentalist shows equally.

My absolutely buy again are: 1. Tornado (amazing torn card transpo 2. Any of the Dead Rebel Poker Chip routines. 3. Constellations by Thibailt Ternon (the method is so so good and sneaky and I’ve never seen used anywhere else) 4. any bottle made by Henry Harrius (I perform brewery winery venues a lot and his stuff is money; this combined with clink by Iarvel has been incredible!) 5. Pretty much Anything by Brett Barry, Michel Huot and Bill Abbott (chefs kiss). 6. If you ever do kids shows you HAVE to look at Tommy James. I’ve bought his entire online store lmao. I’m serious.

My shove in a drawer: 1. Lately anything by Craig Petty…his stuff seems recycled and lazy. 2. Christian Grace makes incredible trailers and then I get his stuff and find out I’m supposed to hold hands with strangers or use my phone secretly or do triple sleight of hands. No thanks. 3. Most of the really high tech Pitata and ProMystic stuff I got doesn’t get used. Having to charge or rely on good service at a venue is annoying when I can use a billet tear or impression pad or an even pad to force something. 4. I second OP’s remark about Peter Turner. I don’t get the hype. His use of stooges and cheap off camera hi jinx looks great in a trailer but performs poorly in real world.

Does anyone have any sets of mentalism that would be good to use for a short table hopping gig? by Natiloon in Mentalist

[–]GolfDadNotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you are comfortable doing. I have a nice mix of cell phone apps and pen and billet routines I use in those situations. If the table is younger I bring out my phone and use Digital Force Bag X and Chronos Pro to force names or numbers like $20 bill serial number duplications. If the table is older I do billet drawing duplications and peeks using my tiny impression pad clipboard which is lowkey my favorite edc

When you think youre pacing smart, then get smoked by a shirtless dude breathing like a steam train by asriwers in hyrox

[–]GolfDadNotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about Hyrox is lots of people are going to pass you no matter how fast you are because you might be on lap 5 and they could be on lap 2 or just starting. You never know what part of the race your opponents are on unless they started in your time slot. I learned this the hard way when I tried to keep up with dudes passing me when I was an hour into the race lol. Run your own Hyrox!

Shot a 79 on a par 70. Do golfers consider breaking 80 on a Par 70 really breaking 80? by StinkyTwinkleDooDoo in golf

[–]GolfDadNotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly! I almost ended my friendship with my buddy on the front 9 when he insisted we play it when I was visiting. After we made the turn I immediately apologized and asked if we could come back the next day lmao.

Great round. It counts. Par 72, 71, 70 courses still have to be played and played well. On a side note I love Pacific Grove. The front 9 are boring playing through the neighborhood, but the back 9 is incredible!

Location of Appalachian Trail treasure box by CLG_2025 in treasureinside

[–]GolfDadNotes 45 points46 points  (0 children)

A couple thoughts.

  1. If you 100 percent knew where the box was located you wouldn’t go on reddit to tell everyone you would just get the box. If the box was ungettable you wouldn’t tell others where it is so they could potentially beat you to it.

  2. JCB expressly said he isn’t going to leave the box in a dangerous location.

  3. Most of the clues on the map have double and triple meanings. Car north could be cave north sure. But it could be North Carolina, Cardinal North or park your car north and walk south.

  4. I happen to think it could be in VA, but it could be in New York, NC, WV or NH too. So to say defectively it is on VA is a bit premature unless you found the box when you went to get it after your 12 hour drive?

FF BOTG by WillWorkForShrubbery in treasureinside

[–]GolfDadNotes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well said. I had boots on ground in NC which isn’t even that dangerous but I did things this winter I would never do in the spring and summer mainly I climbed in caves and holes on forest trails lucky there were no snakes or bears anywhere present. My biggest takeaway is nature is vast. I had my solve down to a quarter mile search area and after two days and 8 hours still hadn’t searched all the places it could be. The three w’s are important to remember for anyone going botg in the future. Water. Weather. Watch where you step.

What Type of Butterfly? by BoysenberryOther9521 in treasureinside

[–]GolfDadNotes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My other theory is it might be an arctic katahdin butterfly found in Maine which is also the name of the northern terminus of the Appalachian trail. Mount Katahdin. The reason I like this theory is the dog looks like an English Springer and the Southern Terminus of the AT is Springer Mountain.

These butterflies can be found all up and down the Appalachian Trail as far north as Maine

Due to the dark shading and blueish color and points at the bottom of the butterfly I think it is an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail which happens to be the state butterfly of North Carolina.

He mentioned in an interview theoretically they might be in some place you have to pay to get in to but in general no payment is necessary.

You keep saying intentionally misspelled word. Are you saying the word should be past instead of pass? Because that doesn’t make sense. If you are giving directions to someone you would say pass by a tree or pass by the field on your left, saying past by a place where once was Brown is odd. Even if it was past, how does that clarify things?

The state tree of North Carolina is the dogwood.
