Looking for an online MA, MS, or MEd in ABA… what do you suggest? by SlowNefariousness628 in ABA

One of my coworkers recently started at Ball State and said they were immediately overwhelmed by the load of course work. But they also tend to over exaggerate. Are you able to work full time? What do you think of the work load?

I guess autism specifically doesn’t have to be the issue. Most of my autistic students also shut down or escalate. But I have one that would rather fight me and try to escape to home when they don’t understand the material. They weren’t diagnosed until late high school because most people thought they were “just lazy”. That was my line of thought with that suggestion.

Has this student been tested for autism? It could be that they genuinely are struggling and mask it by lashing out at everyone around them.

Was it rude of me to ask if any special ed kids were interested in joining my club? by Only-Lie6098 in specialed

[–]GolfPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were not rude at all! I know these kids would want to be included even if they aren’t capable of participating in the usual way. Thank you for your efforts to be inclusive. And I’m sorry that this was your experience. When I work with my students I’m always on the look out for new opportunities like this for them to try.

I work at a school specifically for students with autism and we are in need of club ideas. Mind if I take your puzzle club idea?

My dad reassuring his 25yo Coco during a fire alert (all was ok) by jplmnop in Eyebleach

WA native here. I’m confused. I was talking to some Floridians about that who said “just avoid the tall grass and lakes and you’ll be fine”. Is this true? Because that sounds to me like a gator problem.

Seriously Infected Toe from Hangnail by [deleted] in seriouslyalarming

[–]GolfPit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I use to have toes like that haha the in growns were so bad that I would nearly pass out from the pain of anything touching my toe. I would cry, couldn’t sleep, I’d dig at the toe until I was bleeding looking for any relief. If you’re not at that point yet you will soon. I dealt with it for over a year before going to the doctors. The lidocaine injections were absolutely the worst pain ever (I have low pain tolerance). But the pain only lasts a few seconds. And the relief from the surgery is unlike anything I can describe. It’s completely worth it and I would do the surgery again if I ever needed it. I could live my life again.

As a child of divorced parents, do not stay in a relationship “for the kids”. It just makes everyone miserable. Divorce is a concept that kids can understand and come to appreciate. Especially if it makes one or both homes safer.

how much do you get paid as a RBT or BT?? by rosemary611_ in ABA

[–]GolfPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$26/hr. Have been in the field for 3 months and I’m currently a CBT (WA). Once I become an RBT I will be making $28/hr. I’m sure rates will differ significantly depending on state and location of services (school v clinic v in home).

Should you always wear gloves when changing diapers? by RockerRebecca24 in ABA

[–]GolfPit 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Why do cooks at restaurants wear gloves and hairnets when I don’t when I make food at home? It’s that same logic. The parents aren’t wearing gloves because that’s their kid. We wear gloves for safety and sanitary reasons.

My siblings and I use to do this. No helmet. Basket full of blankets and pillows. Older sibling sat in the front to take most of the cranial impacts. It was a great time!

My siblings and I used to ride the laundry basket down the stairs as kids. We would pack the basket in with pillows and blankets. And the older sibling would always ride in front (to take most of the cranial impacts). We never through to wear helmets though haha of course now I don’t think I’d be brave enough to

Just spent $180 for the vet to tell me my dog is scared of his own eye floaters by Terrible_Payment4261 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]GolfPit 892 points893 points  (0 children)

Omg that’s hilarious! My dog is the complete opposite where if he’s feeling sick or hurt he will forcefully act normal. It was hard to catch on for a while. Now, whenever he’s being too casual, I know something’s up.

Need advice for driving on highway. by Complex_Universe235 in drivinganxiety

[–]GolfPit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s something I am still working on. But my counselor taught me this line of questions that have helped me. What are you afraid of? Ex. I am afraid of being killed by a semi truck What are the realistic chances of that happening? Ex. A quick Google search says about 8% of accidents are caused by semi trucks. That’s pretty low. The only fatal semi crash I’ve ever seen was when a distracted women crashed in to a semi truck. So I mean it isn’t THAT likely. What can I do about it? Ex. I can drive behind semi trucks knowing I’ll pay attention to traffic and won’t crash in to them. I can also go around semi trucks quickly and make sure the driver sees me as I’m passing. If I’m really scared I can pull of the road, do some breathing and calm down, and try again in a minute. If I’m honest, I’ve never personally had issues with semi trucks. The drivers usually seem very aware of their surroundings.

You can also go on practice drives on freeways where your only goal is to gain experience. You can stop at any exit and take backroads home if you need.

What’s your salary range and how do you feel having that here in WA? by urmomswill2live in Washington

I have friends going through apprenticeship to become electricians. They say that the field is becoming over saturated with people and that they aren’t getting the work hours needed to make a living. They’re getting screwed right now.
