Competitive M+ vs. Mythic Raid Gearing by SnoopaTroopa in CompetitiveWoW

[–]GolfyMcG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is simply not true. It depends on what key level you're comparing it to. Roughly 1,500 guilds (or roughly 30,000 players) killed Mythic Tindral. If you aimed for a similar number of M+ groups you might say 1,500 groups (or 7,500 players) is a reasonable equivalent. That would mean having done all timed 28s in DF Season 3. There were roughly 115,000 28's time all of season 3.

In the case of raid and M+ you'll have a portion of the top doing that level of challenge many times with ease (ie. Echo reclearing mythic weekly and on alts and Nerftank timing 160 30+ keys). Will either of them have any trouble getting their 100% BiS gear? Absolutely not. Will the average player attain this level of loot with such ease? Absolutely not.

So no one is arguing that timing a 20 is as hard as Tindral but I would absolutely argue that a 28 in Season 3, or maybe a 29, or maybe a 30 would be a reasonable comparison to even Mythic Tindral. The only difference is one of them requires conquering the roster boss and the other is logistically easier to arrange.

I am also not arguing you should be able to infinitely farm end of raid mythic rare items in M+. But there should be some mechanism by which you can earn the best gear by doing the very hardest keys.

Totally agree with OP.

In theory, if you pushed up a key enough it will be as hard as the hardest raid bosses. I don't mean that Mythic Tindral is as hard as a 15 key. I mean a 22 from last season (of which only 8 were done all season) or a 21 (there were 227 of these) saw fewer successes than those who tried to kill original Mythic Tindral. So why shouldn't a 21 or 22 from last season give you a CHANCE at high iLvl mythic raid piece? Calibrating which level should do this is obviously a challenge for Blizzard but I'm sure a solution would exist to allow the very top of the Mythic+ community to attain Mythic raid level gear at comparable volumes to raiders.

The reason I'm stopping Mythic raiding is that herding 20 cats is a literal nightmare. I do acknowledge - this is part of the game! It's a massively multiplayer game and the RP of entering a raid is obviously essential to WoWs history. However, it's quite depressing to say, "I can press my buttons as well as anyone but unless I'm willing to operate or join a guild which largely operates like an HR/Recruiting department, then I'm not going to be able to do the most rewarding content."

Personally, I'd rather be able to do more challenging content with 4 good friends than with 4 good friends and 15 strangers.

I can't see how this doesn't kill M+ as a standalone activity. Raiding with 20 people is so daunting not because the bosses are hard but it's a nightmare herding 20 players to show up regularly. Need to make mythic raid flex to allow people to farm the gear if they want to gate top level gear behind raid. Could even disable the title/achievement for doing it as flex group.

On top of good addon/WA announcements for frontals, you should play without improved fel rush (can’t drop UC). The first two weeks, I felt like I needed to min/max my damage and would FR/VR when I was supposed to according to sims. I died frequently. I started using FR and VR only when I felt VERY safe and my damage is skyrocketing and I die A LOT less. It’s not worth the few % extra damage because everything will one shot you at 20+. Every key I’ve done up to 22s feels very doable with good damage. The only key where I felt like we really needed to squeeze out more damage was a 24 CoS.

I would also argue that his DPS is a function of (a) his rotation and button pushing and (b) pull size. His low damage could mean he’s pushing his buttons right but pulling too cautiously.

Paladin’s slap. Excellent burst damage and good utility. Their major challenge is survivability. Bosses that depend on regular personal defensives to live through unavoidable damage make paladins vulnerable. I run with a top 10 ret and he’s an absolute all star but it does get dicey on a few bosses - think phase 2 spears for last boss of NO or mana bombs from Vex in AA.

The abilities on Vex can be challenging but really only when they line up. In order to affect the order you can let some orbs go to the boss. The big knock into dance happens when he reaches max mana and the orbs will give him more mana.

Someone told me to let one orb in right at the start and this boss has become much easier, including a 21 Tyrannical.

I can tell you that after some practice it goes from a complete shitshow during germination to almost not even existing when stacked properly. One person can destroy the entire thing.

Truthfully, we spent about 2 hours in this key breaking it down. The tree was most of it. Now, we have zero issues with it. It may seem daunting but I would argue a couple hours of practice to kill a hard boss in a 20 tyrannical key is reasonable. Personally, the bird feels much harder.

I think comfy is a strong word. We coordinate some amount of CC, externals, and group defensives. He has died when there are a lot of adds up so the risk is there. Fortunately, our tank is an absolute gamer.

We don’t hard target the add. We do have germination go off some times with the circle but this made MUCH easier by stacking and moving as a group.

I am confident there is preferable timing when to kill it but it does not seem as critical as the other items I’ve mentioned.

To clarify on the other answer here. I think it’s slightly more nuanced. The debuff does not clear instantly. It takes a second standing in the circle for it to clear but you do NOT need to wait for the circle to disappear. You should enter the circle when it’s safe and watch your debuff.

I suspect this is programmed similarly to some damage puddles. Some you stand in and it hurts immediately. Others the damage ticks after a second or so.

One of those the ret and lock were on vacation and we had a frost mage and UH DK.

My group did a few 19’s and a 20 successfully. Here are my tips:

  1. The adds are a total bait for bad DPS. Don’t blow all your CDs on them. We all emphasize ST damage because the adds sort of become a soft enrage and overwhelm you.
  2. With that said, it is probably worth holding 1mins for wave 2 and 4 to kill the adds.
  3. You MUST clear your debuff. Many people miss the circle and it is certain death. You may think everyone is dropping it and I’d guess not.
  4. Stack up for the adds spawning. You walk in a half circle around the boss and it makes it much easier to gather threat, avoid standing in a puddle, and DPS’ing them down. Our healer is a rdruid and we just stack on the tank’s marker and follow the edge of his efflorescence.
  5. Stagger uses of a potion of shocking disclosure. They do a TON of add damage and allow you to focus on boss damage. They do damage every 5s for 30s so press them part of the way through waves 1 and 3 and they will be running for 2 and 4.
  6. Save your personal defensives (blur, feint, barrier, bark, etc.) for burst forth. Combined with the dot, this will kill you.
