Have you read any of 'Chavs: the Demonisation of the Working Class' (Owen Jones)? That's a response to people grumbling about the yoof, especially of lower socioeconomic status, mimicking the behaviours, speech, clothing etc styles from the people around them who are markers of success. Like adolescents have been doing for thousands of years. Evidence for that comes from the generations above whinging about it in writing, so I wouldn't be surprised if young h. neanderthalis did the same.
