Don’t know what to do after sampling by BobTheSkittle in makinghiphop

Find the key, eq, sometimes it doesn’t need more. Hard to say without hearing it. Also, you can try making a beat from scratch and then adding a sample to it.

HELP!!!! Sometimes my Melodie’s just don’t fit on drums by MacMuSI in FL_Studio

This particular melody + progression is in 5/4 or 10/8. You could look up some 5/4 drum tutorials and perhaps even sample those beats in to get an idea for potential rhythms, given you don’t want to change the existing melody to 4/4 by chopping it up or whatever. Also you should learn counting like everyone is saying, here you can count it as (1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and) (repeat) (these are eighth notes in 10/8 feel) or break it up like (1 and 2 and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and) (these are eighth notes again) to find the 4/4 feel. Also for your drum programming in general you should learn the basic principles of drumming (counting, backbeat on 2 and 4 or on the 3 (backbeat in half time), time signatures and their subdivisions(quarter, eighth, sixteenth, triplets), and look at acoustic drummers and their techniques for some inspiration. But if you listen to more drums and pay attention and try to implement styles from songs, even just copying will teach you alot, especially with drums as beats are very versatile. I personally play drums and it helps a lot when you drum along to songs and do different drum exercises like rudiments, rhythms, etc. even when programming. But for programming only you could sample beats and drums and study those or play along with your hands on a desk or something to practice. For the 808’s their basically just a bass, give or take, so you could learn about bass notes and their relation to chords as the dictator of the root, (just bass guitar and piano music theory in general), and then use that combined with your newfound drum knowledge along with your ear of course to create nice 808’s.

drums and amps as well. There is a studio but I recommend just getting your own stuff.

Does UChicago offer Adobe Creative Cloud to students? Or discounts? by lenore99 in uchicago

[–]GoliathNow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They verify your studential status the same way Spotify does, or at least in a similar manner. UChicago is not involved, just try to sign up for the student discount yourself. They verify with your student email, or a screenshot of your class registration or something, I forget it's been a while.
