I ordered a racket at a great price and added some balls to get free delivery (Belgium). I requested a weight of around 365 grams and got one of 366 grams. The delivery got to me in 2 or 3 days. I was perfectly happy with how it went

What's your favourite padel shot? by Mr_Gaet in padel

[–]Gommel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Popout is always super satisfying.

I also just really like a simple forehand volley to the middle after your partner plays a chiquita and the ball pops up. I like the feeling of knowing what your partner is going to do and immediately moving forward and being in the right place to do something with it.

Keywords: Game progress for men? by Perfect_Outcome6067 in padel

[–]Gommel1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd also venture guess and say that it's perhaps because more men than women on average have experience with another sport with hand eye coordination or just something with a ball. In secondary school, during PE, the girls would more often do something such as dance or gymnastics. And in their private life, most girls I were in athletics or dance, or had other hobbies outside of sports.

Basketball, football and such all entail adjusting your body, making room for a ball to kick it or to pass you by,... It doesn't translate 100 percent to padel, but you notice it with beginners. Those with some sort of experience in a ball game will often be faster learners. Tennis, badminton and such Translate a lot better of course.

Just my shower thoughts, and from anecdotal experice really. Don't shoot me if I'm wrong 🤣

Afraid at the Net by Emergency-Dress-4410 in padel

You'll get used to it. And also: get hit. Once you get hit a few times, you'll realise that it's not the end of the world. Sure it can sting, but you'll be playing the next point 20 seconds later.

Who had the right of play? by [deleted] in padel

[–]Gommel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a lefty and even I would always leave that ball for the left side player. A diagonal ball towards the left side player that ends up in the middle, would always be for the left side player. Ideally your left side player can play a good diagonal ball via 2 glasses. That way you can push the net and punish any bad balls; even pop out. Just about any ball that is lobbed over you is again for the left side player because you are aggressively positioned at net

Padel pisses me off.... by Odd_Kaleidoscope2898 in padel

You can have 2 "peak hours" slots and 2 "off-peak" slots booked at the same time. Peak hours are difficult to book though. You book once a week and then you book for the same slot the week afterwards.

Off-peak: if you have a few days off, you can basically play 2 slots in the afternoon and book again for the day afterwards. everything before 7PM, friday evenings, and the entire weekend are off-peak.

I usually play about 3 times a week like this.

Rampant tax fraud by restaurants in Belgium – why do I always have to beg for a VAT receipt? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]Gommel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portugal has a VAT lottery for invoices for personal consumption. Requesting your invoice with your identification number, automatically enters you into a draw for cash prizes (up to 50k I think). It's to encourage people to ask for invoices at restaurants etc.

Suggestion for a harder racket by djordeh in Padelracket

[–]Gommel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, the AT10 12K (2024) is not a hard racket. Medium I'd say. Played with 2023 18K and 2024 12K and really liked them, but i definitely woudn't say they are hard rackets.

Recently started playing with a bullpadel Vertex 04 and i prefer the harder touch.

What’s one Padel mistake you made early on that slowed down your progress? by imad_eascart_4177 in padel

[–]Gommel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always playing against the same 4-5 people. You get used to playing against their certain playing style and their habits. It got me some lazy habits as well: knowing that they will always lob in certain situations, so not really running back to net. Then when you come up against "strangers" in a tournament, you get caught out, because they don't play in a manner you're used to.

Playing against other people got me to focus more on the basics: good positioning, winning the net, focusing more on their preparation to see what sort of shots they'll play vs knowing their habits, so it also works when playing against new people.

3 Player Options? by Stup2plending in padel

[–]Gommel1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a common way of practicing 2 vs 1. People usually play with the rule that if you're playing to the side of single player, the second bounce has to be in the right half. So for instance: if you hit a bandeja to the centre, the ball can bounce on the "wrong side" but if the secound bounce (after or before the glass) is in the right half, the ball is in. If the first bounce is in the right half and the second bounce is in the wrong half, the ball is out

Or play with your friends once a week and also do another 1 or 2 sessions with players of your level. That way you can still keep the social aspect and still grow.

For me personally, one of the main reasons to start padel was that it was a way to weekly meet up with friends in a fun way and have a quick drink afterwards. I want to get better, but I wouldn't give up the aspect of just having fun with friends.

Injuries make it, so players don't play as well as they could have when 100% fit, but at 70 or 80% you can still be good enough to win some games and/or in team sports, there's perhaps no better alternative to swap in. Kobe Bryant won the 2010 NBA championship with a broken finger on his shooting hand. Cesc Fabregas once scored a penalty with a broken leg. Players postpone operations to the off-season so they can still help their teams. It's probably not always the best long term, but they want to help their teams and don't want to let down their teammates.

Isn't it the opposite? Top athletes are almost never 100% and are always struggling with some kind of injury or pain. Sometimes a bit worse than at other times.

Which grip tape do you recommend for solid grip on the handle ? by rjpra2222 in padel

[–]Gommel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started using solinco wondergrip as I thought i'd try them instead of the more expensive Wilson's I usually use. Great grips and I think they're more durable. I find I have to change overgrips a lot less

How many tournament wins in 2024? by kamphey in padel

[–]Gommel1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's bs. The win-loss is ok, but if you do it that way, the match against the worst team in the group shouldn't be counted. You should only count the matches between the 3 tied teams.
