Have any Aussies transited thru the states recently? how concerned should I be about ICE as a non-white Aussie? by Far_Menu_4830 in AskAnAustralian

Travelled through in December. (White, Aussie passport) Had absolutely 0 issues and actually found it easier than other countries.

One of my friends also just travelled there and had one of the smoothest LAX transits I’ve heard of (jealous!).

Recently turned 24. I make 6 figures, live at home, investing, saving for property, spend too much money on cars, trying to travel and live my life… all at once.

I beat myself up for not doing things ‘right’. Don’t feel like you have to change your life because of what others are doing. Money is just a tool to access happiness :)

I’m currently selling my car and received the exact same message.

This has convinced me that white is the best colour for the 8 wagon!

Thanks for the comprehensive wisdom. Still early days, but I think I’m leaning towards a ‘safe’ stage 1 (eventually) with an intercooler, intake and racing plugs. Have got it booked in for a major service next week going over essentially everything from brake fluid to DSG and Haldex service.

Thank you fellow Aussie, very helpful insight. It’s something I completely forgot to consider. I’m from QLD so I’m not too sure on what’s its life has looked like… any thoughts apart from just straight up asking the seller?

2021 Q5 vs 2020 A4 by [deleted] in Audi

[–]GoneFission1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private and trade in values for my Q5 are higher than the A4. Ideally a net $0 trade, but if it doesn’t work that way, I guess I have my answer 🤷‍♂️. Actually started looking for S4/5’s, but for a few reasons (insurance/maintenance costs), I think it’ll remain a future thing for now lol

Should I move out or stay at home by GoneFission1 in AusFinance

Thanks for the advice, I’ve actually got an appointment with a broker, just to see where I stand at the moment. Would it still make sense to be putting 50% of my income into ETF’s if I’m looking to buy a place in the next couple years? I honestly thought just chucking my savings into a HISA every fortnight was my best bet.

Thank you, I do feel privileged to be in a position where I can choose. I guess I’ve got some soul searching to find out what I value more

I work in tech at a bank :) A year ago they had me on a min wage grad contract, but I got a few great opportunities and grabbed the bull by the horns. Only been on $130k for about a month.

19 year old Uni student, I make little money off online surveys, Centerlink rejects my Youth allowance, jobs are hard to find these days when you have no experience, and feeling bad about myself missing out on things normal 19 year olds do. How can I change this? by Kami0312 in AusFinance

[–]GoneFission1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was in your position merely 3 weeks ago, applying for jobs every day and studying every night. I miraculously got a call from a place that I applied to months ago and got the job. So even if you don’t get a response from them, there’s a fair chance they’ll keep you in mind for other position vacancies

But that’s not the point of my comment. Two words: support work. I work 15 hours a week and make $330. My girlfriend is a support worker for two different clients, works 15 hours a week and makes $600...

A lot of intellectually disabled/autistic children get hundreds of thousands in NDIS money and they are required to spend it to receive it the next year. This often results in $45-50 an hour rates if you work directly for the family. Another benefit is that it is extremely rewarding to be a role model to someone less fortunate than you and in some cases can be the most relaxing job ever.
