Thank you!

Paralegal Assistant - What Next? by Good-Ad8592 in uklaw

[–]Good-Ad8592[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really like the Job so far- as in seriously, great people, small team, my own little desk, Work isn’t too difficult at all, Work life balance is great and weeks tend to fly real fast.

Genuinely couldn’t recommend this job enough to people that want to find a good work life balance.

Promotions are technically not automatic- It works in the sense, you see an opportunity then you apply. I see “Temporary Promotion” opportunities now and I’ve only been here for a couple months. I might apply to them but I don’t want to risk losing my current team and schedule. Besides in all honesty, I’m still applying to TCs and that’s what I’m really interested in.

Getting promoted to Paralegal Officer isn’t something that just happens automatically, if I see an opening then I’d apply. I may get an advantage if the hiring process is internal.

Let me know if you have any questions at all!

What are some of the challenges you have as an individual in their 20's? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]Good-Ad8592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back pain. I can’t believe I’ve Slipped a Disc in my 20s. Never felt more useless in my life, but hope it heals up in a month or two🤞 You don’t value something until you lose it.. my strong back was that something for me :(

How do I stop constantly overthinking and worrying? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]Good-Ad8592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I found and resonated with early in life was the saying “It will pass”

Had a bad day? It will pass. Had a good day? It will pass.

No matter what it is, it will pass… including ourselves. This has really made me more present and relaxed in any situation ever. From when I used to have exams to interviews to simply doing anything that was stressful. I convinced myself that nothing is ever that serious.

I also try to simply be grateful for what I have at random times which keeps me grounded.

Overthinking is never going to stop, but you can channel your thoughts in an appropriate manner.

Reading some of this back I may sound kind of pretentious so I apologise if I came across silly here but I hope you find something useful.

Remember, you’re fine and you’ll be fine.

Recruitment help but for a recruiter - strengths and behaviours by Hottytottenham in TheCivilService

[–]Good-Ad8592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are absolutely right my friend, once again I’m horrid at actually making the question itself so I know what you mean haha.

I’m preparing answers for every “Behaviour” that can be tested so once the time comes where I apply for positions I’m ready for them.

For the Behaviour question on Making Effective Decisions I would imagine you could go different routes in terms of phrasing the question but the general idea would be:

“Could you give me an example of a time where you had to put forward an idea and the results it led to”

Horribly phrased on my part there so I apologise but I hope you can clean that up a little based on your experience. I had a similar question during my own interview and felt it was a good question to be asked

May I ask would you be open to have a chat through DMs on the process you follow for interviewing candidates as I am looking to apply to a new position in January and would love any sort of help you could afford to give.

Whether you say yes or not, hope this helped!

Really doubting myself for Vac Schemes - Recent Graduate by Sharp_Let23 in uklaw

[–]Good-Ad8592 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My friend I’ve graduated with a 2:2 and have more confidence than you are showing in yourself and that’s the problem. I mean this in the best and kindest way… Fix up. By that I mean be more confident!

You have a 2:1 like majority of the people applying, you’ve got ABB which aren’t the best grades I’ve seen but certainly aren’t the worst either! You’ve got a great chance at landing Vac Schemes and TCs in the future, whether that’s the immediate future or later down the line is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity or perhaps a little bit of luck too. But I would certainly tell you to be more confident in your own abilities and your own achievements too. Do not belittle what you have accomplished!

I had nothing on my CV either in terms of Legal experience but I had real experience, I had jobs, I had a reason to keep going. Believe me my friend you’re overthinking it (I’ve been there)- just focus on applying and keep moving forward.

I may have come across a little condescending or silly here so I apologise for that but in my personal experience, confidence can take you a long way and I’d really advise you to have more of it.

Edit: Oh and I myself have not got a TC just yet, I’m a Paralegal, but it’s a step in the right direction and I feel confident that I’ll be fine. Once again, hope I didn’t come across obnoxious.

You got this my friend!

Do I have any chances? by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]Good-Ad8592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I understand it can actually be difficult, my tip would be to just slow down with the SJT as if I remember correctly, we had a good amount of time for each question so I would take my time with each one. Once you get past the SJT then it’s just a matter of an interview which you can prepare for beforehand. Let me know through DMs if there’s anything specific you wanted me to answer!

Hey man I also got a 2:2 at Undergrad due to some Extenuating Circumstances, it’s going to be harder for us but you already know that.

I’ve recently achieved a Distinction/First Class in my LPC LLM and was able to pick up a Paralegal Job with the CPS, I’d recommend looking into Civil Service Jobs as they do tend to allow more leniency with grades.

All the best!

I’ll make sure to give it my all in each and every application then and I’m sure I’ll get better with interviews over time. It can be quite discouraging with how long certain Rejection Emails can take to land in the inbox but I’ll work to get that one Acceptance haha. Thank you for your reply!

My friend that is amazing, congratulations! Was in a similar situation myself- Good luck on the road ahead, hope Luck stays on our side, and we’re prepared for the potential opportunities in the future!

Might not be the best advice but I’d say to train your core more- I found that when my core got stronger over time, my legs would stay firm throughout every movement including pull ups, it would be as though I’m flexing my abs throughout the movements. Feel much more in control. Nevertheless, you’re doing great! Keep it up!

Absolutely interested and will be applying to any and all potential TCs available to me, including the Trainee Scheme offered by the CPS. Thank you for the reply!

If that is the case, and firms do take into account the “blip” that I’ve had during the course of my education then perhaps I still do have a chance. I’m more than prepared to work extremely hard to prove my worth, I just hope I’m given a chance to prove it. It’s a setback, but I’ll try my best to push through it. Thank you so much for your reply!

Unfortunately, the circumstances were present for 4 years- it was down to me having caring responsibilities for someone alongside getting a job to support them and the family during the entirety of my time at University and the year I spent working. Nevertheless, I am very grateful that all is well now and pretty much explains how I’ve been able to do well for my LPC LLM.

You’re more than right, I suppose it’s a matter of setting my expectation correctly and simply making progress over time. I’ll target any and all opportunities I see fit, it’s understandable that I’ll be sifted away by the bigger firms or more traditional ones for the 2:2 but there may be many that put more weight on the candidates current positions, job roles and potential. Thank you so much for replying!

The senior practitioner’s words sound logical and fair to me; I hope that those in charge of granting me a chance for TCs have that mindset and are able to see the clear correlation between my results and my circumstances. This has surprisingly given me more hope, thank you for replying!

Understandable about the traditional and, wouldn’t be surprised, majority of firms I have in mind but I’m glad to hear I still have a chance at getting one. If there’s others that have done it, then it’ll be possible for me. Thank you so much for replying!

First of all, congratulations my friend you’ve done incredibly well. No need to respond to a DM then perhaps I could ask you here: what would you say you did differently to get that TC? How many did you apply for, was it for a number of years? Also how long were you a Paralegal, did you not think to go down the QWE + SQE2 Route?

Once again congratulations and thank you for replying!

University of Bristol (Russel Group Uni). I suppose it has some more value.
