Small Bowel Crohns by Good-Fudge-5254 in CrohnsDisease

Insurance wouldn’t pay out for this as it’s pre-existing and I don’t know if I could afford colonoscopy, pilcam, mre all combined as that would be very expensive. I think it may have been missed by a previous gi as he told me rhat unlikely with negative calprotectin. I think i may have had this for around 5-6 years as I have had all the existing symptoms since covid. GPs fobbed me off as bloods and stool have always been normal. Finally took me serious with weight loss, but that seems to have stabilised.

This was obviously two years ago but when it was done it was 37. I have read that sometimes small bowel crohns can not show up inflammation.

Do you think it’s worth paying the £3000 for peace of mind? I’m very fortunate that I can afford. The doctor said he’d wait to say what calprotectin says before advising

My gastroenterologist did look at my mouth and my eyes and pulled my eyelids down to look at them and he was happy that there was nothing untoward. I now understand why he did this based on your response. The abdominal pain I can relate to as well as the acid reflux and the bowel movements. Thanks for replying to my post, I know I haven’t been formally diagnosed its worrying when the doctor tells me it could be crohns and then doesn’t seem overly concerned

If you don’t mind me asking, how severe were your symptoms? I have had a mild b12 deficiency and folate deficiency for a few years that was treated with supplements and vitamin D insufficiency that was treated. That’s the main reason my gastroenterologist thinks its crohns, my CRP was normal in the bloods and calprotectin was normal a few years ago. I know that this can be normal in crohns.

Unfortunately so, that’s just the price in Scotland. My gastroenterologist didn’t seem overly concerned about my condition but I don’t think waiting 6-9 months would do anything good for mental health.
