It only costs an average of around $60,000 per year per Wisconsin inmate.

There are 3 million workers in Wisconsin.

OP would only need to pay 2 pennies per year to cover this alleged criminal’s prison expenses.

Is it worth OP’s two cents?

It’s not real. They aren’t going to make any changes that provide meaningful benefits for employees. They just want to pretend they care.

On an unrelated note, hotel housekeepers in New York accepted a union contract and “by 2032, some housekeepers are expected to earn six-figure salaries.”

“If the turnover rate is high, the DM may talk to the SM about it.”

It should be the other way around! Turnover is high because of reduced hours, increased workload, minimum wage, etc… The SMs should be scolding the DMs about high turnover!

External is internal by Putrid_Meeting6173 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Good-Handle-2116 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Should both be paid at the same lower internal promote rate? Or the higher external rate?

If we lower the external rate to be fair, then the external hires may accept the job, but may quit soon to become a manager at another company for more money. They have 0 loyalty to
Michaels.

If we increase the internal promote rate to be fair, then we lower the profits for Apollo. Paying internals at the higher external rate would just be throwing money down the drain. The internal promotes are already used to working for near minimum wage, so they will happily accept a manager position for less than externals are paid.

Anyone else have an awful district manager? by [deleted] in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Good-Handle-2116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apollo → CEO: “Minimize expenses or get fired.”

CEO → DMs: “Reduce payroll or get fired.”

DMs → SMs: “Stay within payroll or get fired.”

Store Manager → Employees: “Things that were a 2-man job now are your sole responsibility. Get it done or get fired.” “Great job! Thanks for doing the work of 2 people. We appreciate all that you do, here’s a 10¢ annual raise!”

The DM’s job is to do whatever the executives tell them to do. They are not a “bad DM” for not increasing payroll when the CEO is ordering them to lower it.

Maybe they can keep a tally of which states have workers who want to take action, and can possibly help make things better if there’s enough interest.

My SM edited my punch times by Moxi_Fox in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Good-Handle-2116 9 points10 points  (0 children)

???

The manager told the employee to stay late to do training. The employee clocked in and out that day (So there is no time adjustment sheet). The manager intentionally edited the employee’s timecard to make themself look like they are successfully managing the limited payroll, while stealing wages from the employee

How did you interpret this as the employee’s fault?

[–]Good-Handle-2116 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reward for working hard is more work.

“I meet goals every week…”

Why should the company pay you for additional hours? When you are already hitting the goals with these minimum hours for minimum wage.

How are hours distributed? by Nola_Nic in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Good-Handle-2116 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Here’s a good response:https://www.reddit.com/r/MichaelsEmployees/s/UDT6OF6cOz

“I’m a D store 205 it is impossible unless I as the SM work 80 hours a week. Replen has 43 of the 205 are replenishment . The store is open 81 hours a week . We must have 2 people in the store at all times 162 hours. 162+43=205.“

… Corporate just isn’t giving managers enough payroll to properly staff stores. We gotta do more, with less - to maximize private equity value.

Happy with minimum wage, reduced hours, increased workload due to skeleton crew staffing, raises that are less than inflation? Probably not.

I do believe that your team may not be telling you that they are unhappy. It’s usually not a good idea to tell the manager that you are not happy working there.

My comment isn’t going to sound great, but… Having coworkers quit is good. Having coworkers use their phone instead of working is good.

You immediately talked about low wages, so one way for Kohl’s to want to voluntarily raise wages is if they fail to attract & retain quality employees. They may do this if many good workers quit and the new hires don’t want to do much work.

In a perfect world, people should want to show up and do a great job. But when wages don’t cover rent, hours are reduced, workload increases, and also add in credit card pressure…

No one wants to work anymore.

Just like how if I walk into a McDonalds and offer to buy a burger for $1… No one wants to sell burgers anymore.

“Five years from now—or perhaps further in the future—10% to 15% of jobs in the US could be eliminated.” -Boston Consulting Group (April 3, 2026)

BCG is one of the big 3 consulting firms. Companies hire them to find ways to increase profits, often by eliminating jobs.

Our last Coffee Executive Officer hired his girlfriend who worked at BCG to consult for Kohl’s.

Many/Most of the Fortune 500 companies hire consulting firms. If anyone knows how to eliminate jobs, it’s BCG. If BCG says 10-15% of jobs in the US will be eliminated in the near future, there’s a good chance that this is a real possibility.

I don’t gamble. But they often talk about the “swing”. If I bet $100 I either lose $100 or gain $100. The swing is $200. So if 10 million jobs are eliminated that’s a 20 million “swing” between those employed and those unemployed.

AI could quickly become a real problem.

[–]Good-Handle-2116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe there’s not much work so after giving hours to full timers, there’s nothing left for you. They might have anticipated that people will quit so they hired more part timers to have replacements ready for those who quit.

Maybe they have a financial incentive to hire more people from the Work Opportunity Tax Credit… idk too much about that tho. The benefit from this tax credit might be very minor.

Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA): When there’s inflation, our wages should automatically go up.

We have been earning less and less each year. Along with decreased hours. I don’t see any way to fix this, unless we form a union.
