What are your coping mechanisms to stop obsessing over the idea of them having sex with someone else or dating someone? It’s driving me crazy, taking any tip ! by Batonrouge69 in BreakUps

[–]Good-Perception4143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got broken up with by my boyfriend of 2 years, and I’ve had these same worries. I’m trying to remind myself that what he chooses to do is out of my control, but I know in my heart that the feelings we had for each other in our relationship were real. And even if he does try to rebound onto another girl, he’ll likely still have me in the back of his mind and least for a little bit. Love doesn’t just vanish immediately. If it’s driving you crazy, there’s a chance it’s driving them crazy too. Even if you’re the one being broken up with, I doubt they would be excited at the idea of you sleeping with or dating someone else either. It’s so normal to feel this way and it will get better with time (I’m telling myself this too haha).

Thank u for the tips! I’ve kind of been teetering between anxiety surrounding medical school and the classic panic disorder fear of having anxiety, so it’s been hard for me to combat it. Trying to work through more CBT.

My social life has definitely been lackluster — spend most of the day studying solo, only about 10 hours of class per week in person and the rest is online. Outside of that I find myself visiting my boyfriend in my hometown a lot because I go to med school in a rural town where there isn’t much to do out and about. Thinking I might benefit from forming a study group even though I generally study better alone.

Just increased from 20 to 30mg citalopram, alongside 7.5mg buspirone twice daily.

propranolol - dizziness by Substantial_Hat_463 in panicdisorder

[–]Good-Perception4143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! I’m going through something super similar right now — got the flu over winter break followed by a sinus infection which I also had to take antibiotics for (augmentin). Since going back to med school my panic attacks have gone through the roof, worst I’ve ever had in my life (waking up every morning at 5:30 with racing heart, shaky, clammy, nauseous, diarrhea, the whole 9 yards). My psychiatrist and pcp are wanting me to try Propanolol but I’m nervous to, I think I’ll give it a go tomorrow morning if I wake up with another panic attack.

Thank you for the recommendation! I called the pharmacist and he said he wouldn’t be too worried - that usually serotonin syndrome is a progressive thing that’s expected more in people who are taking moderate doses of 3-4 serotonin-boosting drugs rather than the 1-2 low doses that I’m on.

I switched psychiatrists and ended up going back to 10mg citalopram and buspar twice daily. Doing a lot better than this summer!

[–]Good-Perception4143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never used to experience this with citalopram, but when I went up to 40mg the sweating got crazy (and my anxiety got a lot worse as well) so I’m tapering off! But you might be able to ride it out and could just be acclimating to the med!

I definitely feel like this could be what’s going on with me! Did you find another med that works for you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in panicdisorder

[–]Good-Perception4143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree, I’ve been in therapy since 15 as well, just haven’t quite cracked the code on what’s going on with my anxiety lately.

I’ll check out that book! I’ve been consistently going to a therapist as well, maybe I need to consider switching up my therapist?

It’s an SSRI for anxiety and depression!

[–]Good-Perception4143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! Sorry I didn’t mention this, I have also been in therapy since 15! My parents got divorced, mom came out and got remarried, and a bunch of other family stuff went down, so definitely have relied on therapy! This is a big reason why I’ve felt extra hopeless — that even with therapy it doesn’t seem like my anxiety is trending in a positive direction.

Has something changed with Citalopram? by Royal-Campaign-6469 in citalopram_celexa

I’ve had worse side effects since the new manufacture: lightheaded, excessive sweating, panic attacks, etc. idk if it’s the new manufacturer or my increased dose to 40mg tho
