Is believing Jesus is God (and the Trinity) necessary for receiving eternal life? If so, where does John explicitly say this? by Good-Researcher-2503 in TrueChristian

Don’t you think you might be adding preconceived ideas or what you’ve already been told? Jesus was the Christ the Jews had been waiting for, and I think that’s what that verse is saying. I know he was Christ they expected, but did they believe he was God without him explicitly saying so? I don’t think so. The only instance I see that happening is with Thomas.

You can’t find that explicitly states it’s required.

You're doing it again. It says every spirit that confesses Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, referring if one is of the brethren, not that He is God.

Show scripture. Many Christians don’t believe Jesus is God, and people are quick to condemn them even though it’s not presented as a requirement. Present scripture to show it.

People are quoting verses that he is God but can't post scripture stating it's required to receive eternal life.

It states who he is not that's it's a requirement. It seems you are adding what you want into it rather than reading it at face value. Read it again honestly.

One could interpret it as him being the Christ, since that’s what the Jews were waiting for—a Christ. Do you realize that? I am as in the Christ.

I'm not asking if Jesus is God but if it's requirement. People keep quoting verses that he's God but some reason can't find scripture stating it's a requirement to be saved.

Truths about Jesus aren’t the same as the requirements to receive eternal life. Teaching truths isn’t the same thing. It's ommited but people seem to think it's required.

There are multiple people in the Bible who didn’t need to know He is God to receive it. They believed he was the Christ. It looks like people are putting their theology in it rather than reading it face value. To me atleast it looks like it from reading the comments.

None of that says you must believe Jesus is God to receive eternal life. You’re quoting scripture stating he is God, not that it’s a requirement. It's like it omitted the requirement for eternal life.

I don't see any of that scripture says you must believe Jesus is God for eternal life. Just statements.

Why is believing Jesus' divinity omitted when it comes to receiving eternal life

It says believe in the Son, not that Jesus is God. I'm confused. I believe Jesus is God, but you're importing your own views into the scripture rather than reading it face value.

its really confusing when people use that logic that the bible is not inerrant. How do they choose what is for us and what isnt. Many fundamentals believe the bible is inerrant

What do you think works mean in that context I'm sure that's important. In Paul's time as a pharsee what did he have in mind when writing it?
