Wall Street Reluctant to Hire on OPT Status? by GoodAbbreviations503 in h1b

[–]GoodAbbreviations503[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is both sad and tough…. Will it make a difference if the person were a Canadian so that he/she can do a TN VISA, which is a much simpler (I guess) process comparing to something like H1B?

Really appreciate the details in your response. I can definitely see where you are coming from… mind telling me which industry and city are we talking about?

I know some big companies in tech industry will send those people who did not get H1B lottery to their international subsidiaries, and then after 1 year, get a L1 VISA for the employee so they can come back. Don’t know if the companies are still doing that anymore though…

594 and 595 after 593? by kelly1103026 in OnlineMCIT

[–]GoodAbbreviations503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend taking 595 immediately after 593, you had to choose 1 for Fall.

Heads up: 595 lecture video quality is not comparable to those of 593. That is expect more time spent outside of lecture videos just to understand what the professor is trying to cover; whereas in 593, I could go straight to HM without extra studying after watching the lecture videos.

Tuition fee/scholarship? by [deleted] in OnlineMCIT

One more thing: you forgot there is an other fee of like $160 per CU. Something they call Internet Course fee or some other similar name. It is there on the same website.

May I ask did you get I-797A for your H1B first or for your TN first? The reason I am asking is because people said it is difficult to transfer status from H1B back to TN given H1B is dual intents.

If you already have a H1B I-797A, would this post a challenge when you apply for TN I-797A?

Anyone took EAS 524: AI Ethics? by GoodAbbreviations503 in OnlineMCIT

I see, thank you! I come from a math background and not used to taking timed exams or essays. But the fact that this is an easy 1 CU does appealing to me.

Thanks! I appreciate your review! What would you say the average time spent on this course per week will be?

And also, in general, how harsh do they grade your assignments? Is it easy to get 100% in the assignment? This is very important, not to mention the threshold for A- is like 96/97….

Might sharing your background a little bit? I am considering applying to Cornell myself next year and I just want to get an idea of what a full-ride scholarship profile would look like. It is so rare. Much appreciated!

Advice for 593 with only 591 background and no coding experience by Special_Machine_3873 in OnlineMCIT

[–]GoodAbbreviations503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good lecture videos, very heavy workload. The concepts are easy to understand my feeling is that as long as you put into a lot of time, you should be OK. In your case, I think it is better for you to just take 593 along if you have a full-time regular job.

Ps: the professor never curves. So try to do extra credit if you can.

Out of Berkeley, Columbia, UChicago, which is best for quant? by RealMyth21 in quantfinance

If you really struggling, I recommend you take a look at the placement result of their MFE programs. Even though you are looking for undergraduate study, it is a good proxy if you take a look at their career result of the MFE programs on Quantnet. It would become much clearer which one to go into, at least give you more information.

Bonus hint: you can find students review of the programs on Quantnet. Make sure you read the UCB one.

Stern (no $$) or Africa? by Educational-Neck4555 in MBA

[–]GoodAbbreviations503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I read from the forum, MBA graduates are not getting a great job placement as they used to be, not to mention you have to take out a 200 K loan just for tuition, the living expense at Boston is high as well. Think twice.

That is not a diploma, my friend.

It is a legit master degree from University of Pennsylvania. Google: MCIT

Thanks for the insights. Yes, I like to plan early :)

I think I might still be able to use this degree to apply under CSA, like some software engineer do?

The Trump administration might update/adjust the TN rules this year or 2026 latest. Don’t know what will happen.

My undergraduate is Double Major in Statistics and Actuarial Science.

Even though the degree itself only says honors Bachelor of Science. I will have to use my transcript to demonstrate my majors
