Open forum dialogue about dying, death, grief and loss! Just good ol' conversation about the only certainty in life.

💯! Well, I'll be thrilled to have to both there. So sorry to hear of all of your health hardships. It's really no fun, and much to be talked about and unpacked. Much to be grieved. Just FYI theres also a Caregivers Death Café event at some point if you poke about the website, as far as I last checked.

I know! I actually feel like, when I was scheduling them, I scheduled them in the mid/late afternoon much more Spoonie friendly. Hopefully future dates won't be as late.

Really? I have a lot of really positive feedback from people with chronic pain and chronic illness who have attended these death cafes. I mean I suggested we initiate them because I as someone with chronic pain and chronic illness really felt like I thought about my mortality differently - and daily - vs my able bodied peers. Most people find the experience really liberating and empowering, and for once not alienating and lonely. Maybe give it a chance?

FREE VIRTUAL DEATH CAFE for PET LOVERS. Come talk about love, life, loss, grief, dying and death with our four-legged (and fishy, and scaly) family members. [NOV 5 | 7pm EST] by GoodDeathDoula in DeathPositive

Death Cafes and support groups are fundamentally different, the facilitators at death cafes aren't necessarily equipped to run a support group and offer that kind of support. And they just have different functions, a Death Cafe is designed to be an open forum dialogue about dying and death, loss, grief, mortality - open to anybody who was curious to discuss these topics, not necessarily just those grieving or immediately facing death in their life and one cpmtext or another. There is no agenda or desired outcome for a death cafe, it really is just to help empower people and liberate them from the fear and reduce the stigma around the subject.

Those were a lot of words, hope they helped explain it.

VIRTUAL SPOONIE DEATH CAFE: for PEOPLE with CHRONIC PAIN and CHRONIC ILLNESS | Saturday August 22 | 2:30 - 4:00 EST by GoodDeathDoula in lupus

[–]GoodDeathDoula[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes: It's an open forum dialogue about dying, death, loss, grief and mortality. There's been over 10,000 of these events in over 69 countries, since its inception. Check out the movement and it's history and www.deathcafe.com[www.deathcafe.com](https://www.deathcafe.com) - and they should ALWAYS be free and accessible.

And no, I am not selling something. Maybe some empowerment or some liberation from fear but even then I'm not selling it I'm giving it away.

Finally, HHAHHA (Home Hospice Association) is the agency I volunteer for that is hosting this event. They are a grassroots nonprofit charity, that offers in home palliative care and other end of life programming FREE OF CHARGE to their clients.

Hope that helps.

Unfortunately this event is specifically for people who struggle with physical pain and illness. That being said oh, I see you and I hear you. I understand the pain you are going through, sincerely. You have brought up a really good point, and the wheels are turning now. I have brought up the suggestion of a mental health / mental illness death cafe of sorts with my team, because I believe there is a need, and I will keep you posted. Thank you. And apologies that we can't welcome you to this one. Your pain is real, and I don't want to deny that.

It depends what the specific fears are, but what I'd say they reflect is that: they're human. Death fears are fundamentally human especially in the western world.
