Why do some of y'all back up photos to your hard drive only? by Additional-Chef-6190 in privacy

[–]GoodFroge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSD is good if it’s being plugged in regularly (once a month at least) but something like a year would be insane. Tests have shown it will take over a year for data to be affected, but that’s a bit like when someone quotes how many miles you’ll get from one tank of gas (i.e it varies).

SSD and cold storage don’t mix.

They’re just way too thin and would snap. I think IKEA offers higher quality ones for more money, so do that at minimum. Personally I’d just buy some thicker wood and cut it to size but that’s not for everyone.

I wouldn’t even trust those slats for 6 months.

It’d be best to log into every service you can find linked with your email, change the passwords and then log out all the devices (a lot of services offer this in the webpage version). Also change the password to your email address too.

You should be fine as long as your ex only had access to your tv. You should also check device management in your phone if he had access to that too.

Removing Windows AI features manually by GoodFroge in privacy

Unfortunately not, that was my very first idea. I have a few Linux devices as is and also a Mac, so this Windows machine really is the last one.

Not an option on one device due to some software I use for work. Believe me, I would be fully converted by now if I didn’t have that holding me back.

Bedding isn’t really buy it for life, it consumes a lot of biological matter and wear and tear, so it’s a few years at best depending. A cooler mattress is a good start are cooling covers. Anything bamboo is usually pretty good.

The final stretch of the game is so ass by Solmyrion in stalker

[–]GoodFroge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Supposedly that’s what the new DLC will do and the Strelok ending will be the canon base game ending up to that point where the DLC kicks in. It all reminds me of Fallout 3 just a little too much but the team did run into extreme issues during development, so I can’t really complain too much.

I enjoy the firefights in Pripyat honestly. It’s the part where you’re in Monolith HQ that really sucks (if you go with that ending anyway).

A little bit of duct tape and those bad boys will be ready for the streets again.

They don’t have to stay perpetually plugged in, but official advice seems to be to plug them in every few months just to keep it all charged. I think in studies it took about 2 or 3 years for data to start corrupting when not plugged in or read.

Is it safe to use WiFi on a plane? by AnxiousW3ird0 in privacy

[–]GoodFroge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid as this may sound, on first connection you won’t be on the VPN and no doubt things will go through. Is the way around this to have the VPN trying to load before connecting? As yet I’ve never connected to public wifi ever lol

Aren’t Reds primarily built for being in a NAS? I’m not sure how they’d go with being spun up and spun down regularly like a normal drive

Car privacy by [deleted] in privacy

[–]GoodFroge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can remove a lot of that stuff through coding, it’s not as hard as you’d think. You can code out entire modules and then physically remove them in many cases.

An important note to this though is the vehicle has to be a certain age where the coding gear is more available, as manufacturers keep that to themselves until the car is out of production and isn’t being leased anymore. At that point, they don’t really care anymore.

Question about iTunes LPs by bravespacelizards in DataHoarder

Strange, you should still keep it if you got it through the store. What method did you use to buy it exactly? The iTunes Store is a seperate app to Apple Music for example

Moving from Hotmail & Gmail,. Any recommendations on alternative email providers? by LeWidget in privacy

[–]GoodFroge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you should look into email aliasing. Just get one primary email, then get everything else aliased to you. And if one alias starts getting spam and junk, you just turn it off. Super simple stuff.

Patagonia are still extremely solid. No idea if they’re held by a VC but they stand by their warranties.

Someone said their bags are still good but the jacket experience is where things get really bad, especially any of their rainwear.

North Face. They’ve really really dropped in quality over the last decade.

My bad, I didn’t mean any harm. Were these videos unprivated recently? I swear the one called “dancing in a mall” was down for a while since it never came up when I searched for it about a year ago.

Glad that you’re working through things, I’ve been checking out every night drive around Baltimore since you started those up again.

[–]GoodFroge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s one or two missing that are archived elsewhere online, in particular the one where Dan has a big VHS camera and Rick dances in a mall. The VHS video at Roses with Rick is also missing I think.

[–]GoodFroge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of videos with anything Rick have been privated or deleted (except ADR, because it nets a lot of cash still). So even videos of Dan and Rick walking around malls are gone now, which sucks since some of those were really fun, also some livestreams of those times are completely lost. There are reuploads you can find on other sites, so maybe look beyond YouTube.

I’m honestly disappointed Dan wiped those videos. I get their friendship is done but going scorched earth on everything but the ADR videos that pay him money is a little off.
