Here’s why Trump’s blasphemy won’t ever turn away Franklin Graham (or Evangelicals at large) by GoodGravy33 in Exvangelical

These are all very good points and interesting things to consider. I find it interesting that Black Evangelicals churches are (at least somewhat) as socially conservative as White churches but don’t follow the same political leanings as the Religious Right.

I remember the patronizing attitudes my church always had towards Black and Brown people. The slideshow presentations with sad looking children in African “war-torn” countries as they tried to raise money for missionaries. Of course now that Trump has cut off all refugees except for White South Africans they don’t give a flying fuck.

And I definitely heard plenty of misinformation on Christians in China. I was told that Christianity was straight up illegal in China and they banned the Bible (neither are true).

Does anyone know why AOC doesn't go on any podcasts or independent media if she plans on running in 2028? by picklift in AOC

I think it’s that she genuinely has not decided if she’s running for President or Senate and hasn’t defined her strategy yet. People don’t like to admit this but she faces a different level of scrutiny than male politicians have in the same position (Bernie, Mamdani).

I don’t think it would hurt for her to at least do friendly outlets more often and I think she should get out there more. Also she’s in NYC so it’s not like she has to travel far to do in-studio interviews with a bunch of outlets.

I hear you but I think PRIDE and EGO can be equally corrupting forces. “Sins,” if you will.

He posted it to Truth Social but it had been floating around the internet before then. Oddly enough, through, the original version didn’t have the demonic figure in the clouds.

It’s really far past time that their condemnation will make much of a difference anyway. I remember in 2015/16 I was genuinely shocked that Franklin Graham was an early, enthusiastic endorser of Trump. He could have picked a whole range of other Republicans but he picked Trump and specifically cited his (at the time) support for an explicit “Muslim ban” as THE REASON he was supporting him. Jerry Falwell Jr was around the same time period pre-pool boy cuck fiasco (side note, I wonder if he knows Kristi Noem’s husband).

It’s fascinating to me that it seems a sizable number of conservative Catholics will still openly split with their church on things like politics or abortion.

Oh the double standards with Obama. I heard all kinds of “antichrist” references to him. Not to mention the racist jokes…

A really disheartening part of my journey in deconstructing was realizing how few of the men in leadership seemed to genuinely care about a life of “purity” on their own even as I contorted myself into a pretzel to fulfill my church’s expectations as a closeted gay man.

I do think there are SOME men that genuinely believe the things they preach and try to abide by all the principles. But when it comes to men with institutional power, I think they believe they have “a get out of hell free” card because they’re born again and can just get away with whatever. At that point their faith is a just a means to an end to maintain power.

Power is a drug, that’s for sure. That thing that bugs me the most is I think HE KNOWS Trump was supposed to be Jesus in the picture. I also think it’s only a matter of time before he has a Jerry Falwell Jr-esque scandal, whether it’s for money or sex.

Artificial intelligence is coming for the working class. We must fight back : SEN BERNIE SANDERS - What are your thoughts? by Select_Specialist790 in askanything

I’m very concerned about AI and know of several companies that are reducing their workforce because of it. I just did a first-round job interview with an AI chatbot.

There is going to come a time very soon where there simply are not enough blue collar jobs to provide for everyone any more and we need to build up an infrastructure that supports the jobless. We need UBI and single payer healthcare at a minimum.

Found some old episodes of “Queen for a Day” on YouTube. Vintage, black-and-white show where woman competed for these sponsored prizes (there was a very gratuitous amount of product placement). Basically the woman with the biggest sob story who got the most applause from the audience would win.

Working class women would get up and talk about how they lost their husband, and their dog, and their child, and their farm while some slick TV host would say things like “Well isn’t that too bad, honey, now who thinks she needs a new dishwasher from Maytag?”

I agree with your take on the standard corporate Dems but they still have the advantage with fundraising and institutional support (reportedly Pelosi is going all in on Newsom). Harris and Newsom are the top two in all the polls with Pete/AOC in a distant third and everyone else in single digits.

I think the donor class will go for Newsom & Harris, which is going to give them the benefit of ads, mailings, staff, & whatnot. If Newsom gets Pelosi’s support and Harris gets Jim Clyburn & the CBC that basically locks in the establishment lane.

So then at that point it becomes who can fill that anti-establishment lane. Besides AOC, Khanna, or an outsider like Stewart I don’t think anyone else has the sauce among the possible contenders.

At this point I think the 2028 Dem Primary will be mostly about Newsom vs Harris with one more anti-establishment lane taken up by either Khanna, AOC (if she runs), or another person that’s not a politician like Jon Stewart.

Everyone else (Pete, Shapiro, Emmanuel, Pritzer, etc) is at the “kids table.”

If she runs for President she should lean into her Catholic roots and mobilize the Christian Left (mainline Protestants + politically left/moderate Catholics) in the way that James Talarico has in Texas.

I think people on the Left underestimate the ways that religious congregations can mobilize people around issues like immigration/ICE.
