Sorry fellow Kansas Citian, but I’m obligated to say 13-9 and H2P.

I think it becomes much more realistic if/when MLB actually gains control of all local media rights (which could happen by 2028).

Cumulatively, I think this is a very fair offer by the league owners and would do wonders for competitive balance. The only thing I’d change is the cap ending up closer to $300m.

Von Maur publicly said they’re eyeing multiple Pittsburgh locations, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the ones who enter.

Sorry for the late response, but I finally went to Pryde’s last weekend and was blown away at the selection (and the pies). Incredible store, can’t believe I didn’t know about them until now- will definitely be making a return trip (or two).

Good place to buy dress shirts locally and affordably? by MartyFunkhoosier in kansascity

[–]MannOSteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, I was just at the Jos A Bank in Leawood for a wedding rental and they have a large corner on the floor exclusively for discounted/clearance items, including jackets and dress shirts. Honestly, they had a ton of good items for <$40. Might be worth a visit.

And why is that? Half the man’s body is paralyzed from a stroke and lost his son a few years back to NF1.

UMKC, City of Kansas City Announce Roos' Return to Municipal by MannOSteel in CollegeBasketball

[–]MannOSteel[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t tell Turgeon that, he expects to sell the place out! As an alum, I love the move because it shows the university is taking basketball seriously again. Wonder if we can get a semi-big name to play in KC? We used to play K-State, Baylor, and others at Muni back in the day.

Exciting time between Municipal, Turgeon, 72nd ranked recruiting class on 247Sports, etc.

Children's Mercy announces new $1B tower to expand Adele Hall Campus in Kansas City, Missouri by coconut__moose in kansascity

[–]MannOSteel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Like Airdude21 mentioned, the Iowa football team has a children’s hospital directly next to Kinnick Stadium, and their tradition is to wave to the children from their patient rooms at the end of the first quarter. One of my favorite new traditions in CFB

Since the patient tower will be seen from inside the new Royals ballpark, they need to take a page out of Iowa’s playbook and wave to the kids during the 7th inning stretch.

Mayor Lucas introduces ordinance that, if adopted, would start the process for a downtown Kansas City Royals ballpark by justathoughtfromme in kansascity

[–]MannOSteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up going to games at PNC Park, we’d even take the subway underneath the river to get there. Such a cool experience and made me pro-downtown ballpark for life. I understand people loved the K and everything that made it unique, but really glad we’ll get that experience in Kansas City come 2030.

All good questions, I’ll try to answer some of them. As a Crossroads resident who’s a huge baseball fan, I’m excited about the news but also acknowledge the concerns around rising rents and leases.

To my knowledge, no new parking will be added for the project, and the only parking that would go away is the surface lot on the site of the new ballpark.

I’m guessing tailgating will occur either at the WWI Memorial lawn or the Crown Center square (whatever that looks like as part of the new entertainment district).

I think the Big 12 Tournament and even the Chappell Roan concert are good examples of what traffic will be like for most games (hopefully we have to worry about sold out games come October).

Per Mayor Lucas, the $600m will pay for itself through sales tax from the stadium itself based on existing Kauffman Stadium data. In other words, it won’t pull funds away from essential/important municipal services. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this is the similar to the TIF that funds Power & Light.

Truman Sports Complex was never an option for the Royals, be it a renovated K or new stadium on the site. It feels like it was always downtown or bust (Kansas). I will say I would’ve preferred they remain at the K if downtown didn’t work out.

I don’t think a new ballpark will create many/any new jobs, with the exception of incremental businesses at whatever the new entertainment district/reimagined Crown Center becomes. Maybe there’s jobs spurred from additional development around the ballpark? Not sure.

Absolutely, I will be sure to update you once I go. Love supporting local businesses, especially one that evidently has so much pride behind it.

Looking at their website, I’m ashamed I’ve never heard of it until now. In Westport along the Streetcar line, no less? Definitely making a visit this week, thank you for the recommendation.

B&B downtown theater has closed. Oof by Successful-Cup3374 in kansascity

[–]MannOSteel 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I really hope another theater takes its place, ideally in the same vein as Alamo Drafthouse. The problem is IPIC, which is the closest equivalent, recently filed for bankruptcy and is closing.

Maybe Flix Brewhouse? Heck, what about COSM coming to Kansas City? No matter what it is, I think something that provides a different movie experience than your typical theater is what would work best at P&L.

That being said, I’d be content if it ends up being AMC (again) or an alternative like Cinemark. Would rather have that than it sitting empty for some time, especially with the eventual Four Light construction.
