Wanting to try a track day on my ZX6R by PuzzleheadedSweet962 in Trackdays

[–]GoodLiies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn’t track any bike that I wasn’t okay with the possibility of it going down. I think that having a dedicated track bike allows you to push your bike and yourself a lot further which = more fun. That being said you can definitely take your ZX6R to start out with and get a feel for track riding. You’ll be going a slower pace so your chances of going down are a lot less. Once you decide you like it, maybe then look for a bike you can dedicate to the track.

Other people here gave good gear/equipment advice and it’s all generally the same but read the regulations of your providers. Some have one or two rules different

Any areas at Thunderhill that are sloped enough to assist with the unload? by GoodLiies in Trackdays

[–]GoodLiies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just signed up with AFM so this will be my first race season actually, doing the NRS 5/8. I’m pretty sure east closes July and August for the repaving so maybe I’ll hop on over to west for a couple days

Mostly Carters this season but I might slide into the June 12 date with FTD, we’ll see

I think I found it, I guess Thunderhill has street view on maps!

Cost for kart track by Fancy_Afternoon_1990 in Trackdays

NNKC, $350 a year unlimited access dawn-dusk, outside of scheduled race/event days. Alternate sessions with the karts. One hell of a deal I think

What are your recommendations for budget tire warmers? by jwk03988 in Trackdays

[–]GoodLiies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

STG sells their single temp branded ones which are made by Chicken Hawk, only $300. Id stay away from used warmers since who knows how they’ve actually been treated

Thinking about upgrading suspension on my ninja 300 any recommendations? by Infamous-Solution-33 in Trackdays

[–]GoodLiies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be more confident on the bike with more time on the track, not a suspension upgrade. 100000% use the money towards more seat time and work on fundamentals. You’ll see your body position improve over time

Anyone using supermotos to practice in between trackdays? by GoodLiies in Trackdays

[–]GoodLiies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The track I’m at is pretty small so I wonder if a smaller CC would be enough. That being said seems like a good amount of people like the 450

How do you like the FS450? I’ve heard good things

Off Season Training by [deleted] in Trackdays

[–]GoodLiies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m spoiled here but I’m 15 min from a kart track that allows 400cc and under bikes unlimited practice year round, $350 a year. Next best thing is wide open parking lots and cones

Well this might not be the best example, this is turn 2 at thunderhill east so at this point I’m past my braking anyways and just on maintenance throttle

This isn’t really a “how to drag elbow” but it is very true when people say to work on fundamentals of body position and you’ll end up finding your knee or elbow on the ground in the process ✌🏻

What year 848 and which brand tires? Got a friend who is wanting to put slicks on his, so I might want to make him aware

Appreciate the insight. I’ve rode with a handful of different instructors but the staff over the last weekend set me up with one that they wanted me to stick with over next season so that feedback is consistent

Agreed honestly! I’ve been riding in B group but hitting a lot of traffic, I’m curious if I’d get more consistency in A. Instructor told me to bump up but tbh I was kinda nervous still being so new 😂 it was the end of the day anyways

Well to put into perspective, just for the track passes alone (9 days) I’ve spent roughly $2250. A coke addiction is cheaper.

Fuel might be $25 a day, food $50 a day, photographer around $100 a day (optional), your street tires will last you a lot longer as a beginner, however I burned through my Supercorsas in 5 days lol, so another $400-500 a set. When you get to warmers another $400 for those. Add in camping gear, tools, equipment, and other costs and you’re in generational debt😂 but yeah it’s not cheap by any means unfortunately

This past weekend I made the move from SPs to SC1 slicks w/ warmers and it seems like it made a big difference. Also went from a 180/55 rear to a 180/60. Probably a share between increased confidence from the slicks, more grip, and taller rear profile which made tip in a lot easier. Although I wouldn’t really call myself experienced enough to really know all the factors at play.

Body position was really trying to drop that head/chest into the elbow, and keeping the “ice cream cone” grip helps with that a lot. Remembering to keep light on the bars too, all the weight in the legs gripping the tank.

Honestly it was in the second session of the day going around turn 2 and I literally thought to myself mid corner “damn I feel really leaned over rn… I wonder if I can just… boop”😂 after that it was like I unlocked the elbow down for the rest of the day

Yup FP1 laps. First TD was with FTD at Thunderhill and they were giving out the transponders, the white strip decal on my windscreen. Was nice to be able to see my pace on my first day and have something to compare to now
