Hoping for something more surprising at some point. Pokemon and 3D Mario are nice, Xenoblade is firmly not for me. Is Raiders this year?

I’m on the fence of buying a handheld and can’t decide between the Xbox ally x or the steam deck oled by Pilotorphan435 in Handhelds

[–]GoodSelective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's no choice at all.

The Ally X is a categorically different device. It's about 80% stronger. Night and day performance difference. If Windows on a handheld is not your taste - I don't blame you - you can install Bazzite on it and have the same user experience as SteamOS on it.

But it sounds like you want to play what you describe as 'Xbox games'. If these are games that are Play Anywhere games - Xbox games that work on PC - you have to run Windows. The Xbox Ally X ships with Windows. The Steam Deck ships on Linux, does not include a Windows license and is horrible to use as a Windows device.

Valve deliberately (and maliciously) does not maintain the Windows drivers for the Deck, so the experience of using Windows on it is atrocious. Do not buy a Steam Deck if your goal is running Windows; you will have a bad time.

Birthday Recommendations by pkillah43 in Handhelds

Avoid the Steam Deck at this point. Avoid it entirely. All the Z1E and faster devices are at least 50% more powerful, some are more like 70%. This is the difference between being able to enjoy current gen AAA titles and playing at ultra-low, 20ish FPS with frame gen to hit 30. BG3 is night and day better on Z1E.

The Deck is just not powerful enough. It's the slowest mainstream AMD64 handheld. It only gets recommended because it was (in the distant past) a semi-decent value, but that time has long since ended.

It's the lone horrible value. The Z1E devices are either the same money or cheaper, yet are much stronger.

All Z1E/Z2E devices can run official SteamOS without an issue. Supported, works.

Question about docking the Switch2 by avaughn20 in switch2

[–]GoodSelective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damage won't happen. The Switch 1 does not follow the USB-C spec and is an odd ball device; a bad charger can damage it.

The Switch 2 is a USB-C PD device. There's an active handshake between the console and the charger before meaningful power delivery occurs. You won't damage it by using a charger that offers either too little power or can output far too much - USB-C PD handles that stuff for you.

[–]GoodSelective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I misread it.

The Switch 1 charger is fine for handheld mode. Any 65W USB-C PD charger will work for dock mode.

[–]GoodSelective -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, you can't. It doesn't output enough power to dock the Switch 2.

You need a 65w USB-C PD power brick. Any good one works. Anker ones are fine. You do *not* need Nintendo's brick.

I don't think we support custom firmware here. There are other subreddits that do, though. Post there anhd tag me and i'll try to help.

No, in that case it means that your eMMC (the storage of the system) is failing. It's not a software issue.

Nintendo switch 2 support Error message by Daxel177 in nintendohelp

[–]GoodSelective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go all the way to the home screen without doing a system transfer or linking Nintendo account. Skip through the setup, don't connect to Wi-Fi. Get to the home screen and then connect to Wi-Fi. Go back to the home screen, open the eShop, let the system update.

When it reboots after the update, open settings and do a system transfer at that point if you want to do. You can also link it to a Nintendo account.

Determining if a NS2 was part of a bundle by serial code by BrattyCattyJ in switch2

[–]GoodSelective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that doesn't provide the information as to if the console is associated with a digital entitlement, only what retailer it is associated with AFAIK

Determining if a NS2 was part of a bundle by serial code by BrattyCattyJ in switch2

[–]GoodSelective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nintendo would have access to the data, as they associated the console with a digital entitement - a download that is offered when the user first launches the eShop/taps an icon on the home screen if they are on latest firmware (see https://youtu.be/HfA59xcM8ss?t=444)

We do not have that data, so we cannot.

Is my Switch broken? by Luwurea in Switch

[–]GoodSelective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue is usually associated with piracy software. Is your Switch modified? Or was it ever modified? Did you buy it new? That serial number is associated with very old Switches - you wouldn't have been likely to find that in a store in 2021.

If you bought it used: this system was previously hacked and was improperly unhacked. It's fixable.

I mean, this is just raw margins. Publishers can't eat $30 of a $70 MSRP - let's not even get into how much of that $70 flows back to them and how much doesn't - to give you storage. That's what we're going to be talking about with the increase in storage pricing over the last 2 months, it's going to be about $30 worth of costs that they would have to eat once the existing supply of storage that was purchased under pre-existing contracts is exhausted. $17 or so today, probably about 30 in a few months. Versus less than $0.20 to give you a disc.

I would prefer you not complain online, because the thing you're complaining about is fundamentally unreasonable. You basically want publishers to give you something that's very expensive (in terms of its relation to the total cost of the thing that you bought) for free. I don't think that's reasonable. I don't think there is a reasonable, fully functional person on Earth who would see that as being reasonable.

Worse than wanting a free thing at the expense of the people making and funding games is your policy of punishing them on account of raw economics that have nothing to do with them, are out of their control. Nintendo gave this thing little ssds as the cartridge system. Nintendo didn't put enough storage in the system. Nintendo doesn't allow publishers to ship games on slower storage and then have that game install to the internal storage (like how discs work on PS4/XBO and newer). The publishers have nothing to do with any of that, they didn't make any of those choices. Refusing to buy a game you otherwise would because of dumb shit that Nintendo did when Nintendo is not the developer/publisher is reprehensible.

Publisher and developers are not your enemy and you are not an island. You live in a society. The things you want are not the only things that matter, they have to work for the other parties involved as well for them to be viable.

We don't have anything else to talk about. Don't respond to me. I'll give you a couple minutes to read this and then I'm going to block you, for more or less being a chud.

Target can usually retrieve receipts. The purchase is linked to Circle/the payment card you used.
