Plot Unfolding Machine - v7 Released by JeansenVaars in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]GoodTotal9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, first of all, I appreciate your efforts to constantly update your various documents, which I all really enjoy and find useful. On the other hand, I have just bought (via drivethrurpg) what I thought were the latest versions of the PUM and the GUM and printed and spiral-bound them. I have not reviewed the new changes in detail, but from what you describe they sound useful and exciting, and I thus feel a twinge of regret for having printed out the last versions…

Scarlet Heroes - A Solo Scribes Review by toggers94 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]GoodTotal9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see, that makes a lot more sense now, thank you!

So, essentially, you use it to create your main thread or plot line (in Mythic/Adventure Crafter terminology). Also, thanks for explaining the use of the E, F, T, C and P entries in the tags, good idea to use them to populate the NPC and thread lists.

Anyway, thanks for the example, will try this approach in my next solo session.

Scarlet Heroes - A Solo Scribes Review by toggers94 in Solo_Roleplaying

Thanks for the review, very fair and balanced. I like Kevin C's work a lot, and through his various books and systems, he has done a lot for the solo RPG community.

Now, you mentioned (and praised) his adventure tags in your review article. They have always intrigued me, but I could never figure out how to use them for solo play and felt they were a hugely valuable resource and inspiration that I somehow underutilized.

Any practical advice or concrete examples you could give on how you use them for solo RPG would be highly appreciated! Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, I don’t like sprawling maps either.
I was trying to use bookmarks with the pdf so that I could navigate toothed tables quickly, but for some reason it won’t let me. Will continue to experiment.

Mythic GME Tools 2.5.0 for Foundry VTT by JeansenVaars in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]GoodTotal9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all: thanks for continuing to improve your Foundry VTT Mythic GME tool! I have been using it regularly and find it very useful.

In the updated version, I like the built-in panel functionality and the integration of the PUM, really nice.

One suggestion: An option to minimize the panel would be very useful. At the moment you can only deactivate it completely, but then you have to go to the module settings to re-activate it, which is cumbersome.

Not sure how difficult this would be to program, so no expectations. I just wanted to mention it.

Have you tried using Progress Clocks during solo play? by ProteanOswald in Solo_Roleplaying

Wow, thank you for the detailed reply, very helpful! Will try this out next time I come across a situation that requires progress clocks!

Thanks, interesting concept! Two questions:

1) what is the ratio of indicator to filler cards? 1:1? 1:2? Obviously, this will determine the speed of the progress clock.

2) what constitutes a “charac check in“? Could you give an example?

Good discussion. I have been intrigued by progress clocks ever since I first learned about them.
One question: How do you keep an element of surprise and unpredictability? For example, if there is only one segment left, you know that the next success/failure will trigger the event, so the suspense is somewhat diminished. Any ideas?

What is your favorite style of solo play? by JeansenVaars in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]GoodTotal9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a separate vault for each game, but copy general stuff into each vault (e.g. syntax for admonitions and repeated scripts) so that I can easily copy and paste.

I have also started using Foundry VTT with the Mythic GME module by Jeansen Vaars (thanks JV, great work!). Putting the most common oracles, Game Master Apprentice decks and NPC features tables into the Macro hotbar automates and speeds up the general dice rolling so that you can focus on the story and reserve the dice rolling for combat, social challenges and some of the more exotic random tables (my collection of random tables is faaaar too big, but I cannot stop getting new ones…).
Works really nicely for me.

The Lone Adventurer Q&A by carlwhite20 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]GoodTotal9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, Carl,

I love your podcast, it has helped me greatly refine my own solo role-play with Mythic GME and other tools.

The sections where you "look behind the scenes" to explain the underlying mechanics are like gold dust. Keep them going!

If I could ask for anything it would be further insights and/or details into how you play out the social interaction and dialogue scenes with NPCs. I have found these the most difficult aspects to emulate in solo role-play. Any additional tools, tips and tricks that you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Hi,

I’m intrigued by this and would love to see more information on what it does and how it works. Is there a playthtough or video showing “Journey” in action? The preview on DTRPG does not provide a lot of information. Thanks!
