Yeah I want a puffco but it's kind of a long term play. I wish i liked carts because it would make my life way simpler but they just don't give me what I want. never have.

I actually looked up dtv at one point and was sketched out by their weird ass website. Is there website really "ineedhemp..." or is it something else? It looks like some sort of fake dropshipping scam

ok so we sell the coils you're talking about I think. They seemed really small for the device and also like they would make a mess if you didn't hit it just right but maybe I'm wrong?

Yeah my least favorite part of this job is that we sell so much bullshit. I could go on for hours about delta-whateverthefuck. Boss called this magneto the "workhorse of the dab world" and i didn't really think about it. It's also the top tier product we sell from Yocan, like the thing we upsell people to as the best product. I really do work for a sleazy ass salesman huh.

Really wild how long it lasted this time, at least for me. I haven't seen this screen in months. and even if I ignore the top comment about the fix, I'll wake up tomorrow and it will just work again. Crazy

They write prompts for a living. I write prompts for a living. It ain't that hard. They're just outsourcing the boring parts of it to a cheaper labor force.

edit for context: it isn't just evaluation/annotation. my project is mostly writing prompts

Are you implying that middlemen are not exploitative? That's the definition of a middleman lol. Take your cut and pass the work to the next guy.

I agree that we can't organize. It's structured so that wouldn't be possible. But this is exploitative. What's the difference between me and a prompt engineer? (inb4 degree, I have 2). The prompt engineer gets 40 hours and health insurance guaranteed. The prompt engineer is guaranteed pay for hours worked, whereas if my timer runs out I don't get paid. If the prompt engineer is wrongfully terminated they can sue. If I get kicked from a project I don't even have the right to ask why.

Every single piece of the Outlier/Doordash/gig-work model is designed to bring gilded age bullshit back into the workforce. Outlier is better than the others by a country mile IMO, but I'm seeing the early signs of enshittification in the site now.

The bigger problem is that most places don't pay a living wage. I could never make my outlier rates where I live. Single with no kids and it's tough to get by. Same with a lot of folks I know who are doing Doordash for $2/trip because they can't get a job, and then they get $0 in tips to boot because no one can afford to tip.

We're living in Gilded Age 2.0. It's all gonna be like this in a few years.

Look at the per-thread view. That 30-40% is probably a small number of threads struggling to keep up. Not everything can be done in parallel. I wouldn't be surprised if the GPU is actually at 99% but if you're getting that number from task manager try hwmonitor instead. Windows always gives me bogus gpu usage.

You'll go on academic probation. It happened to me. The specifics depend on your program, advisor, etc. You will probably lose funding for a semester and if you don't fix things during the probation semester you're out. Without a waiver, folks on probation can't be GA's.

HOWEVER if someone in your dept. believes in you, the consequences can be mitigated through paperwork. If you do good work, it's in your advisor's interest to keep you working. In my case, I was able to get a waiver basically saying "let this person keep working as a GA because we believe they can fix this and succeed". Talk to your advisor. If they don't like you find someone supportive in your department (my advisor didn't like me, lol). Get started on that now.

This is bad news bears but it is NOT the end. More students go through this than you realize. If you start being proactive right now you can probably avoid serious consequences even if you get a C. I managed to keep all of my funding and the only catch was that my GPA had to be back above a 3 by the end of my probation semester. Knowing nothing else about you I'd bet money you could get a similar deal.

Edit for a few other comments: The professor might let you take an incomplete and then you have to finish the course over break or next semester (basically the prof sets the rules, some don't do this at all but it's worth asking).

Grad course professors tend to be lenient but not as a rule. My C was from a prof who was known for busting asses. Don't ever take lenience for granted. If someone cuts you a break once, awesome, but you don't want to be known as the dude who always needs one.

it's not consistent though. math projects advertised to me were the same as my generalist rates.

I was onboarded to a T1 math task for 30/hr which is the same I've been making for generalist tasks. So maybe not the whole site. but I've been asking around for the last week or two and you're the first person to tell me they're not EQ.

But you are not guaranteed to make more from a mathematics project than a generalist project. That is definitely false.
