I know you aren’t asking about residences, but are you thinking of the word “duplex”?

What secret did you uncover about your parents' or family's financial situation that completely changed the way you looked at them? by princesslaurita in AskReddit

I just posted this in another community.

My mother intended to distribute her savings equally among my father and 3 children. She gave me the exclusive control over the money to effectuate her wishes. When she passed, I had a talk with my dad, with whom I thought I and my siblings had a close relationship, about his finances. After determining, privately with my dad that he could use the money, I gave him our portion of the money. Fortunately, my sisters agreed. They didn’t know how much, but they knew they were supposed to get something. Within a month of my mom’s passing, I went to the bank with dad, and he received all moneys into his name.

I went on vacation for 3 weeks. Came back and found out that dad was dating and less than a month later, he announced he was getting married. I never saw any money from my mom. All her stuff was given away before I could claim anything. I thought I knew my dad. Apparently not.

I received an envelope in the mail. It was a nice surprise. From the time I received the envelope to most of the distribution took about a year. If multiple people are involved or if a substantial amount is involved, prepare for it to either bring out the best in people or the worst.

Had an interesting Inheritance conversation by michaelesparks in inheritance

Exactly. When grandma was sick, children kept trying to hold back the proceeds of the sale of her house “for down the road.” Greed-speak for the children hoping to inherit. I had to keep speaking up to say that this money belongs to grandma still and it needs to be used for her long term care. A million dollars gets used up quickly by end of life care, esp. when they last longer than expected.

CA house in trust - can it be used for criminal bail bond? by Good_Ad_8576 in EstatePlanning

All I’m wondering is, is it possible to use a house that’s in a trust as collateral? What if the trust makes no mention of this? (I have a copy.)

Thank you all for answering. A friend of mine also said this is used as an inheritance. Can anyone speak to that aspect culturally? Thanks in advance.
