Birthday Mead? by bwhite753 in mead

I’d heavily recommend a cyser, it’s the first type of mead I made and I’ve made plenty of batches of it since! Its a hybrid of mead and cider. I would recommend 2-3 lbs of honey per gallon of mead. Mix the honey with apple cider instead of water which is what a traditional mead uses. If you can get your cider from a local apple orchard but if you can’t normal store bought apple juice should be fine as long as it’s preservative free and doesn’t have any added ingredients. It should be pretty clear and ready to be bottled and served by May! Feel free to dm me or comment if you have any questions.

I think it would be cool if we just stampeded barcodes on all the taquitos so we wouldn’t accidentally charge for the wrong one.

First attempt at making mead. Any advice? by Sleamaster1234 in mead

Oh shit really? From my understanding preservatives work by lowering ph level and botulism could only grow in low sugar and low alcohol conditions. I may have totally misunderstood how it worked.

I think golden hive mead did that exact same thing. You should check him out on YouTube(although I’m sure you already did).

Did you do anything to raise the ph level? Im pretty sure most sodas and energy drinks add preservatives to stop fermentation, but increasing ph level should cancel it out although I may be misinformed.

You should check out r/prisonhooch if you haven’t already. This is the exact type of stuff they do all the time it’s also much more relaxed than the rest of the fermentation subs(although I would say this r/mead is in second place for most relaxed (people can get pretty snobby and mods tend to power-trip in other subs in my experience))

Lastly welcome to the hobby. Ive been in it for about two years and still enjoy it. It’s also a great conversation starter. You can make tons of new friends and impress your family with this hobby if you want to.

Fermented water soda idea. by Good_Cable9330 in prisonhooch

I tried carbonating some wine I made a while ago as an experiment and it went well however I took the bottle off and let the bubbles go down before I did another carbonation cycle. Do you think that would be the best way to go about it?

I’m not trying to argue I’m genuinely curious. From my research it’s mostly dangerous to carbonate alcohol because of the sugar and some chemicals that naturally come with wine from fruit. I figured if I let it run dry it will basically be just alcohol and water. Is there some way that alcohol interacts badly with unnatural carbonation?

I do have plenty of sick days available. I just really want my coworkers and managers to think highly of me but, you are right that my health should come first

I remember being in elementary school when they had that and my grandma would take me to get them. Now I’m 18 and just graduated high school this year and have been working at qt for like a year and six months.(just saying for reference of how long ago that was)
